yes, 4 full sets, with shoes, stuff and junk fit well, horizontally, in my E53.

Hey.. I have an 04 x5 and iam a hardcore golfer and in mine i can fit bads horozontally with no issue.. ive had 6 bags in the trunk with a bit to spare. I wouldnt buy a car or suv that couldnt do that EVER.

just looking at the trunk liner that I tried to make fit from E53 to E70, the E70 seems wider and shorter then the E53

I tried the suggestion and one bag does fit horizontally on the E70 if you use the indent of the corner. However, it's not quite that easy as you have to get the angle right and a second bag is a problem. I think we are just about 1-2 inches short with the driver and fairway wood. With them removed, you can get multiple bags in. Quite disappointed.
