Diesel Refueling issue

Hi,

I refueled for the third time today. I finally succeeded in not getting fuel on my car in the process. The diesel nozzle is larger in diameter than a gas nozzle. There is a bar in the filler neck that is supposed to allow a diesel nozzle into the neck but keep a gasoline one from going in.

I have yet to get the pump past the blocking bar. (yes I have used diesel every time so far). This makes for really long fill times. How the Hell do you fill this car with Fuel like a normal vehicle??? I don't want to spend 20 minutes filling at .5 gpm for the rest of my life with this bimmer, beemer, car! Its a royal PIA.

Other than that, it is SWEET! Odometer at 800 miles and my 240 mile highway trip with two 16' sea kayaks on the roof yielded 25.0 mpg (calculated)

Could be that you're using the big truck stop pumps? I know I've run across some that will not fit into the restrictor, but the ones made for non-semi's usually work fine.

Find a station that has the smaller sized diesel nozzles. Fill ups take the same amount of time as gas and are easy. The larger, commercial nozzles are a PITA. The adapter BMW provides with the car works, but I find it impossible to use without spilling some diesel on myself or the car.

Thanks! Not sure what to look for? I thought the nozzles were supposed to be bigger. I did see two different styles of Nozzle. One had the wire (spring?) wrap all the way to the end. The others had the wrap end about 4 inches from the tip.

I don't have any problems fueling my diesel. Either something is wrong with your filler neck, or you're using the high volume nozzles at truck stops. The extra nozzle BMW provides in case you want to use the high volume nozzles is a joke. I have it, but never use it. It did come with a pair of gloves...

I suspect there is something wrong with my filler neck. At one station the attendant pissed fuel all over the place. He got his mechanic out to look and he was able to finagle the nozzle into the neck. I was not able to do that but I was at a truck stop. Reading about all the variability with diesel fuel quality I have tried to stick to places that sell a lot of diesel fuel. My local gas station has Ultra Low D but I never see anyone buying it, so I stay away...

I also use a busy diesel station for fuel. There are a couple of high volume diesel stations where I live and they also sell premium diesel fuel.

I guess that you used a commercial nozzle which is working for trucks and you can find them in some small gas station too ,not only in designated truck fueling area.Just look for the ones which are smaller in diameter ,good luck!
