Is the camera picture quality any better?

BMW did not program anything extra or special for this functionality. When they programmed the camera, top view was included.

If you had the non-top view OEM camera previously installed to compare with, is the retrofit unit's picture quality any better? Especially in low light situations.

Thanks so much!

I wish it was ! It is still unusable at night. I rarely use my trailer at night so no problem for me. Parking my car I can still do without the camera

Top View Camera

Folks, not sure what the difference in 'Rear View Reversing Camera' and the new 'Rear View With Top View' is...but I can tell you that if you order the rear view camera for a delivery from November 2009 onwards it will come with 'Top View' and add a compulsory addition of Electric Folding side mirrors. The dealership don't know yet why, but their initial enquiry suggested the 'Top View' from November 2009 will give some element of 'Side View'....which MAY explain why you must take folding mirrors with the new reversing camera from this November. I'll let you know when their enquiry is answered.

Wow For Top View!!!

Got this update:
"Rear View Camera, from late 2009, will have the spectacular new Top View feature. Top View provides the driver with an “birds-eye view” of the vehicle on the iDrive control screen, created by using three cameras, combining the input from a camera on each side of the vehicle (concealed inside each wing mirror) and the traditional rear-view camera. Top View provides the driver with additional confidence for tight parking scenarios."

So hope this is true...

Electric folding side mirrors? I thought those were standard on the X5 (I could be wrong). I know if I press a button, the mirrors will fold and if I press it again, they unfold.

Did BMW finally add automatic folding mirrors (ie: when the car is locked)? Those are cool. I like those.

Top view doesn't really sound like much. Sounds more like side view to see the curb to help you park. Good feature to avoid curbing your wheels.
