Well, it looks like I just may give-up on this whole BMW thing and start checking other brand alternatives. I sent a response accepting the offer First thing Yesterday morning to my SA expecting to put down a deposit. No response. Called This morning and left a message asking to call me so I could leave a deposit using my Credit Card... no response. Up until this point, I got quick responses. I'm beginning to think there might be a problem with allocations and availability of the $4,500 credit, so I'm getting stonewalled until the dealer gets clarity from BMW NA. Now, if BMW NA wants to limit the offer to diesels in dealer inventory, as they started out, that's fine. If BMW NA wants to then expand it to vehicles ordered by August 31, that's OK as well. If BMW NA then wants to artificially limit the number they sell with the discount by then limiting it to a production cut-off date, not just an order date, then that fine as well. That's their business decision. BUT HEAR THIS BMW NA, IF YOU STILL MONITOR THESE FORUMS... MAKE UP YOUR MIND AND COMMUNICATE YOUR DECISION TO THE DEALERS. Having potential customers hanging around with "what-if" deals while you can't make up your mind is not good for your reputation and, in at least this case, may drive a potential customer to your competition. |

BMW is really dropping the ball on the Eco Credit
Quote:
BMW has issued a dealer bulletin making clear that any "Priorty One Order" placed on a 2010 diesel model before August 3, 2010 qualifies for the $4,500 Eco Credit, so BMW should honor their commitment and advertsing. After I placed an order Saturday with the Eco Credit, my dealer finally confirmed TODAY that he had an X5 diesel allocated to him such that they would honor the order with the full Eco Credit, but I also contacted 2 other dealers just in case. At $4,500, the Eco Credit is worth fighting for. By the way, I contacted BMW Customer Relations and Financial Services NA to complain abot how they were handling the program. They were absolutely WORTHLESS, stating that they don't control their dealers, they didn't know who was providing the $4,500 credit, etc. ![]() |

Although I don't disagree with the advise you guys are giving Penguin, and I do understand this is a BMW forum, I'm going to take the other angle. Money talks bullshit walks, go get a ML or a Q and let BMW sell to someone else. It's your hard earned money and you deserve to be treated better than that. Speaking for myself, I put a deposit down last week, this is my 3rd and final time trying to buy a BMW. If they try any sales bullshit which results in stealing back any of my 4500 I'm out the door and I'll never be back.
Tim EDIT: after rereading my message it's sounds negative and angry. That's not constructive, wasn't my intent and ultimately clouds my point which is: there's competition in this space and any manufacturer (not just BMW) should be trying to earn your business and not take it for granted. ^ even Honda was trying to take back part of the $4500 clunker money we were supposed to get. They wouldn't get near invoice and tried using that $4500 as a reason we're getting a deal already... they're not even the ones giving us that money nor are they losing it. Dealers are created pretty much equal in my opinion... you have to find the good ones... you can't expect them.

Well, perhaps I was too quick to rant, although my rant was not about my SA, but the confusion BMW NA seems to have engendered among at least some of their dealers.
My SA is a good guy that is very straightforward... I've bought two BMW's from him previously in the past ten years. I got a call late tonight from the SA and he had already placed a firm order for me to ensure I got the deal without first getting a deposit from me. So I guess my complaint was mostly groundless. I think I might have just gotten spooked by all the talk on this board about no allocations left in Colorado, deposits getting returned, etc. My bad. In fact, I had a quote about $500 less from another dealer, but went with his deal just because he has treated me well with my last purchases and the dealer with the cheaper quote has a few complaints against them floating around the internet. I might have been able to get them to match the better deal if I played hardball, but I figured that once I'm within $500 on a $60,000 purchase, I don't really want to squeeze the last little bit out of the deal, but that's just me. So... it looks like I'll be a BMW X5 owner in around a couple of months. Last edited by Penguin; 08-27-2009 at 11:18 PM. |
