Looks like I'll pass on the X5 Diesel for Now
Dealer one offered $1,000 off MSRP plus the $4,500, while dealer #2 offered $2,000 off MSRP plus the $4,500, i.e., assuming the $4,500 is all from BMW NA, the best deal I could find is about $2,500 over invoice. Guess I'll wait until they get a bit more hungry, or until the 2011 facelift and new engines expected next March. |

Dealer discount depends on how much you load on packages and options. Give and take. I would take the $2000 dealer discount. $2000+4500+1800 IRS is not bad.

I would have to sell my 05 first. Given that option I can't see any chance of taking advantage of any deal.......

You may be wise to hold out for a better deal, I would and did. My 09 35d was delivered new in May and I'd say it's everything I wanted and then a bunch more; it's FANTASTIC.

It drives the exact opposite from how you might assume a diesel to drive. No smell, very little clatter, and a rocket ship off the line (thanks to the twin turbos). There is no downside or compromise with this engine.

X5 diesel drives great, but those 2010 deals ARE harder to come by
Went in for a test drive of the x5 diesel and walked through pricing, based on the Costco program, which comes in about $800 over invoice. In my case, that was about $5500 off of a $61,000 (nearly fully loaded) x5 diesel. Eco credit was part of this price for a 2010 x5, although I am seeing elsewhere that others are getting much better deals on the remaining 2009s out there. May check back this week and see if a better deal can be struck. Any others ordering a 2010 getting better deals?

I went and test drove one for the second time last sunday. Power off the line is great, I was afraid that it would fall flat in highway passing 60 to 80mph (this was actually the reason for the test drive), but it didn't you don't realize that it is actually accelerating very well but it doesn't really feel like it.
Ended up ordering one, Invoice +2000, less the 4500 incentive. Probably could have done a tiny bit better but I hate dickin' around with sales people. |
