My thought is that the credit is available because they aren't selling well. When has BMW offered a subsidy on a popular model before? THat being said, I drove the diesel for a week and thought it was awesome.

BMW's incentive this time last year on the X5 was the 0.9% financing and free Premium Package. Not a "subsidy" of sorts but the current offer on the Diesel is a "standard" 5.9% (but has the $4,500 credit). That being said it's probably a wash on total savings on gas vs. diesel in the end when you are looking at deals that people are getting.

I got a letter in mail from BMW last night about special .9% financing and a sales event at local dealer; plus all the hoo ha about $4,500 off. This a.m. I dropped the 325 off for service and there was probably 1/3 the new cars on the lot; I was shocked. 1 X6, 3 new X5's and a handful of 3's. When I asked about it the sales person was chuckling over having a sales event and having no cars to sell. Economy has hit hard. They have 1 X35d on the lot which I may look at but boy what a sign of the times! And I really don't want a car payment since my current X is paid for...

Well, when I politely declined the offer from dealer #2, he came back with a proposal that was $3,000 off MSRP, or about $1,270 over invoice if one considers the BMW NA ad fee and training fee as part of the invoice price, or $1,750 if one ignores those invoice fees. So I went ahead and did the deal. A bit more than I really wanted to pay, but if it all works out I should end up with a total "discount" from MSRP, counting the BMW diesel promo, dealer discount, IRS Tax credit, and BMWCCA rebate, of $4,500 + $3,000 + $1,800 + $1,000 = $10,300 below MSRP. I believe there is also an advantageous IRS rule for 2009 to deduct sales tax on new vehicle purchases. So all-in-all, it's probably a good deal. |

My dealer in Maine is barren. The only X5's it has are the 4 2008 X5 4.8i's they still have left over and a bunch of identical, non sport X6's (WHY!?)

Most smaller dealers will have really small inventory I bet going forward. And right now there are no new '09s being built so not much inventory flying around at all.

We just went over to Morristown for some parts and checked out how we could do with the X35d's price. We spec'd it with Premium (Comfort Seats), Cold Weather, Rear Climate, Technology with Adaptive Drive.
Our sales person, who was really nice for our first time meeting, gave us $1700 over invoice placing the total at around $58000 including the $4500 credit. He went on to say that getting $1000 over invoice should be no problem, but our goal is to get $800 over invoice. We were told that it may be hard to get the car built within 60 days to qualify for the $4500 credit, but he thinks BMW will extend the date so they sell more cars. Currently, Morristown has 6 X35d's on order, and they are worried about getting an allocation. Your $1250 over invoice prices sounds very nice! Congrats! Congratulations! So when do you get your oil burner delivered and officially become a turbo-diesel trucker?
![]() BTW You might want to pick up a pack of toothpicks, a sweaty hat, and start drinkin' beer by the case to build up a good beer belly by the time of delivery. Otherwise those guys down at the truck stop are going laugh and call you names ![]() Funf Dreisig |
