What is going on with BMW build quality lately?

My car is only a little over a year old now and things are coming apart already. By no means do I abuse the car either.

The leather on the seat is coming apart and the rubber on the knob for the light controls is rubbing off!

This should be covered under warranty, no?

You are absolutely covered under warranty. I also have a 2008. The only issue I had was peeling near the steering wheel controls. Replaced, no questions asked.

Actually yes, those are both covered. Any trim issues you have is covered. Gotta love full warranty!

I guess that's what happensd when the cars are built in the US and parts are outsourced to US companies! I had similar issues on my previous X5. Never had such an issue with any of the other three bimmers which were all built in Germany. Coincidence?? Maybe...Only minor electrical problems which are common with the German cars. Lately they have been outsourcing the electrical parts to Japan. Hopefully that will solve the problems!

No need to slam U.S. companies. These cars are being built better than I expected than I thought they would be.

My wife's 2000 MB ML320 (MADE IN AMERICA) is still running well and looks great. And that's supposed to be a troublesome model...

OT...

Mtech, is that Active ventilated seats? whats the difference between that and the regular comfort seats in terms of shape (side bolsters, seat)?

Reason im asking is, I still cant decide if i will replace my sports seat with comfort seats?

The fact that the seat supplier is currently in bankruptcy probably doesn't help seat quality.

I have light switch peeling a little as well, (good to hear its covered), not sure why they went with rubber coating when I've seen other switches (06 5 series) with a metal turn switch which looks better in my opinion and is more durable, which would make more sense in a SUV ....I wonder if the metal one is interchangable
