That said it's not so unusual in the universe of Just In Time inventories for some glitch in the supply chain to hold things up. There are thousands of parts in a BMW, after all, and their supply base is likely spread all over the world. Just one supplier with a quality problem that propagates far enough into the chain before it's detected could cause a serious shortage.
Not in the auto industry, but I've been involved in cleaning up my share of supply chain disasters.

What makes you think the holdup in supply relates to a part problem? Maybe the camera manufacturer ran out of glass? Maybe they sold too many to Ford and didn't leave enough on the shelf for BMW.
