Period.

Toyota has found that taking your approach doesn't work well in the longer-term.
I guess, if this happens about 50 more times and gets media attention your position that this is anything like Toyotas recent debacles, that may hold merit. However, I'd highly doubt it. BMW has had SERIOUS issues with its fuel pumps in N54 motors and that is barely a blip on the radar. Again, if they can't re-enact what is described, they aren't taking it at one hundred percent accuracy and they shouldn't. Leave the car on the side of the road when it has a problem and tell them to come get it, then they may take it seriously. Again, this is very much a specific dealer and service department issue, not a BMW issue. As has been stated a multitude of times BMWNA and BMW corporate share no true interest in their dealers.

Sorry, I just can't agree that it is good practice to assume your customers are lying to you when they report problems, such as their vehicle died and wouldn't start for three hours on the side of the road.

Very useful, thanks for posting.

They went to a bit of trouble to try and pin the problem on contaminated fuel, but no joy for them -- apparently just defective parts.

AWESOME, now that's what I'm talking about! That's exactly what they should do.

I didn't realize you had a check-engine light on, but the symptoms are identical. Strange.

Maybe it was the "I smell something burning" that put them on the "I guess we better react to this plan."

Who knows, but glad your dealer did what they were supposed to. Wagner had a good point. The next time it happens, I'll insist they pick the vehicle up on the side of the road.

Although, I did insist they do that several weeks ago, to no avail. They simply asked "are you in a safe location, blah, blah." I said "yes, as safe as sitting in the median of a higway can be." They said, great, "we'll call your dealer."

arghh...

Well you probably haven't owned a dealership All I'm saying is then don't complain about cost and "stealer" rates when you want meticulous surveys of every possible issue (as stated in post #42, this SA and dealer obviously applied your rigor to their work)

Again, facts are facts, this isn't a BMW issue it is a dealer SA issue.

I will be blunt.

I said nothing of the sort.

I dislike it when you lie.

I have never said I "want meticulous surveys of every possible issue."

I said, "for a repeating problem with potential serious consequences, I think it is a reasonable approach."

If you are going to lie about what I said, I see no point in continuing the discussion.

Oh, when I lie, sorry didn't see my direct quote from you there (aside from the fact that you loved the one post detailing every little item)..calm down You're on the internet.

But by all means, get agressive on those keys Sure are taking this personally hahahahaha. Facts, again are facts, this is not a BMW but a dealer/SA issue....

I have to agree with Penguin here, by far. This is both a dealer problem and a BMWNA problem.

I have voice records on my phone, e-mail records, and text-message records from BMWNA, my Dealer, and 1-other area dealer.

BMWNA has now had close to 3-weeks, multiple calls (with only 1-returned call) and zero resolution.

BMWNA's customer service rep., personally told me a solution would be forthcoming. I've called her extension and left numerous, and extremely polite and professional messages for her to return my call. Nothing.

In fact, given that I have a few moments, I might as well call them now and see if I can get someone else on the line.

As Reagan used to say, there you go again.

Where did I ever say it was a BMW and not a dealer/SA issue?

You just keep making things up...
