I'm getting 14-15 MPG with a lot of local driving and semi-aggressive driving. 10.3 does sound a little low unless you are flooring the thing at every opportunity. I'd calculate it manually after the next fill-up to make sure the computer isn't just computing it wrong. It wouldn't be the first time that German electronics failed.

No one said owning a luxury/performance vehicle would be cheap.

With about 5000 miles on my 35d, I am seeing 35+ mpg on the freeway. I get about 20 mpg in town. But I didn't buy the diesel for the fuel savings alone. I love the fact that it doing its part to be more environment-friendly while still delivering that bmw driving experience.

Wow 10.3, thats like my M5. 35d has been perfect. I'm getting about 24 and getting around 500 miles per tank. I agree with Armand, knowing the 35d is clean diesel and has lower emissions definitely played a part.

Computer is totally unreliable after a while. I used to have 12L/100km, but after re-map it goes up to 13-13.5L/100kM (calculated mannually) whereas computer stays at 12.1L/100kM for ever.

What do you think you are getting for city driving and really short trips (which is what I do mostly) ..at this stage with 300km on the clock I'm reading 14.5 l /100 ..and not flooring it much at all ... will it get better or is it just that I'm doing tiny trips everywhere ?

That's correct. A Security Plus X5 is much lighter.

So when is it appropriate to call the OP troll for not speaking up?

Any 3.0ers [with 20s] getting 17mpg or above?
Mine (30i) is barely 2 months old with about 1300 miles and I'm averaging 14.5 around town using manual (M/S) mode and many hills. Last 240 mile Highway trip averaged 21 (75 mph legal limit) with a 3500 elevation drop over the first 120 miles and the same ascent over the return. But mine is way new and I am hoping what others have posted about mileage increasing after 10k mi break-in-period will prove true for me. I live in the mountains so can't expect to get what people driving flat will enjoy. Had thought about the 35d but the gas/fuel difference didn't make up the lease $$ difference. It was very close and if I had a higher mileage lease it might have paid off. I do cringe a bit reading diesel MPGs but remind myself that I am ahead over the life of the lease (depending, of course, on what happens to gas/diesel prices).

At this rate, gas will be $35 a gallon!
