Wow. Goodbye warranty.

Sure you don't want to wait, say, 400 miles? Just in case someone missed torquing a bolt here or there.

(The DDE tracks engine operating metrics...if you have a catastrophic issue and remove the plug in, the DDE will still show parameters outside stock...I recall a BMW SIB on this issue and how it can be detected.)

I've heard rumors that BMW will offer 'rewards' to a tech that identifies such a mod... this a rumor only.

GL...someone need to be on the bleeding edge.

Epacy is an unknown quantity at this point
Well, unlike the first guy, congrats! I for one am interested to see how it goes. Install pretty simple? Gains?

Looking forward to the videos. Hopefully the tune will smooth out the driveability at low speeds. With the turbo it can be kinda herky-jerky.

I love BMS Products... I had the JB3 PnP from them for my N54 powered E93 and the gains were simly amazing just on a simple piggy back tune....You were able to take stock ///M3's all day long and I had Zero issues with the Tune and/or the car....so I really trust Terry Burger (The Owner).

In regard to the person stating Good Bye warranty -> Not so fast

There is such a thing called BT Scan that will delete all Codes....so before taking in to the dealer just remove the Chip and delete the codes

and with this Chip the install should not take more then 10 -15 min. It is just so simple anyone can do it...If you can plug in a USB drive then you can install this product. THe JB3 PnP was more complicated in that you had to remove allot of stuff to get to the Brain....With this product you don't even need to remove any bolts....

Not so fast indeed.

I am very familiar with this.

Yes, codes are a sure sign. Surely you want to erase these if you bring it into BMW for a warranty claim, What Terry leaves out is that the DDE (DME in gas cars) has memory that stores prior operating values. Yes you can delete error codes, no you cannot delete op values. If BMW looks and finds boost parameters outside the limits set by the factory tune, you may find yourself on the short end of a very big stick.

You should look up and read BMWs internal document on this issue...it has been posted. Very enlightening.

I've modded DME on two of my cars- but I waited for a while and then went with a 'real tune' that allows total control of all the maps and ensure the root protection functions (knock sensing, ingnition retard, etc) are all intact and linked tightly to the control parameters. And I assume that if I blow up the motor on the 996TT I am spending $25k for another.

Good luck

OK, but you're leaving out all the interesting stuff from the JDB install manual. First, the product is termed 'Beta' on the web site. Secondly, there is this item in the manual:

Quote:
Settings:

The JBD has a small adjustment dial inside which can be changed using a small flat head screwdriver. The default setting is 50-60%. To increase the setting turn the JBD dial towards the MAX and to reduce the setting turn the setting towards the MIN. At the MIN setting the JBD will add around 25whp and at the MAX setting around 70whp. Many cars will throw plausibility codes and check engine lights at the higher settings. So do not deviate from the default setting unless you have access to a BT scanning tool to check/erase any codes you may trigger. It’s safe for the motor to experiment with higher settings but if your car throws a related code then simply delete the code with a BT code reader and turn the setting down.

So while it may be possible to get 60-70 whp, that apparently comes along with throwing codes and check engine lights, and is termed experimentation by BMS.

I am with ard in that I think it is safer to have the originally designed safeties present, and not simply bypassed by a piggyback. There are sure to be additional products out that take that approach. In the meantime, this looks reasonable if the adjustable dial is turned down (although I would get a few miles on it first, personally).

I think for now Ill keep it at the default setting...

Since BMW measures at the crank
Stock = 265 hp and 425 tq
at the default 50-60% level I should be
at = 315hp and 500 tq

for a $280 investment and not to throw any codes I think that's pretty good
plus wants it's no longer beta the upgrade should be free or a minor fee...

For now though it should be just fine....

Did the same thing with the JB piggy back with no issues

BMW can detect all modifications done with chip tuning. Granted, they have to be looking for it. When I picked up my car, I asked the sales man about chip tuning, and if BMW was getting into the game with OEM chip tunes. He said that not at the moment, but that if I wanted a chip tune, he knew some good folks. I asked him about warranty, etc. and he said that if detected, it would void warranty. What he also mentioned is that the technicians have to be on the look out for these mods.

I'd love to get all the extra hp and torques, but not at the risk of voiding the warranty.

Has anyone looked at Hartge and the warranty implications of their tunes?

Cheers,
