Sorry to hear about your problems.

My X5 has close to 50k, no issues so far except something related to fuel tank/cap at around 30k which was repaired in a day, basically just fill up and drive (and I usually drive hard). My battery has been as reliable as my any other cars I had, knock on wood...Fortunately, all my previous BMWs have been highly reliable, except highly modified M Roadster, which was kinda given. I have warranty and maintenance up to 100k and hope to keep the car at least that long.

Ok work in progress.

1. Bought a lamp off eBay, sealed it first with silicone and replaced the faulty one, took the other off and re sealed also. Both working and hopefully water tight.

Cost $ 80 incl sealer, secondhand lamp etc

2. Replaced a rear tyre and had all 4 wheels balanced, vibration gone
Cost $420

3. New battery from a local motor parts store
Cost $170 Inc fitting

4. Next week the body shop for a few small touch up repairs and get the roof bars sprayed. They will also do a three stage deep polish.
Cost $ 600

4. Alloys to be refurbished at an engineering shop
Cost $ 500

I reckon after all this the car should be close to perfect.

Getting there, 2k to get to this stage is not too bad.

One question, the garage that fitted the battery today reckons I should get a modification to the turbo / engine, something about removing the swirl flaps and replacing them with blanks???

Said he had a guy in last week that had a swirl flap sucked into the engine, repair bill $8000

What do you think about this one??

I just bought a CPO 2007 E70 and I too have the problem of the "time" going away and needing to be reset. Also have a warning of "heavy battery drain" which is puzzling as all accessories are off. In addition I have the check engine light come on half way through each tank of gas, which goes away if I open the gas cap and re-seal it. The thing that made me the angriest was that the coolant level was down a full gallon and there are no leaks at all. It made me wonder what they actually checked to make it a CPO Qualified vehicle. It may be haunted as I also have an occasional beep, beep, beep. beeeep. (Three short and a longer beep) It is at the dealer now. Luckily I have my 535i to drive while they have it plus a 328i loaner for my wife.

Not sure what "swirl flap" is, but 2007 E70 never offered Turbo Engine in the line up.

They did, it is called a 30d, and that is the model with the swirl flaps.
