Just a normal stereo mini-jack plug. The audio works fine - the only disadvantage is that you have to use the iPod controls rather than the steering wheel controls and the iDrive. That's what the USB bit adds.

No, what he is saying is that you need to have the USB port in your car for you to get the playlists on screen. If you only have an aux-input, then you will only get sound.

You have to select external devices on the iDrive, its like the 3rd or 4th option down, then aux or bluetooth audi
same for blue tooth audio...took me a couple minutes to figure it out |
