better to be safe than sorry.. RFT's on 135i cost almost $500 on a single tire! luckily i have wheel and tire package. think of 20" X5 RFT's cost...

plus when my tire got damaged, im on I-84. its awesome that i drove still 86miles going home in the middle of the night.

didn't get it on my X5 but i have 19s. two days after i switched to NRFT Toyos i picked up a nail. $250 and done.

wife's 328i has low profile 17s, she blew out a sidewall on a RFT. don't ask, i don't know how.

thankfully i bought the warranty on her car. i suspect before the warranty runs out i will use it again.

So funny I came across this thread.

I declined the Tire Protection because I didn't see the point in it (55k in 2 years and no flat tires)

My 4.8i has the Sport pkg but doesn't have the upgraded tires but does have RFT's (not a fan)

So I was quite thrilled when the TPM message came on last week and I had to replace my right rear tire due to a nail

I'm planning to swap out all 4 tires next year with non-RFT's because the tread life/cost just doesn't make sense to me

Not sure on yours if you have a full size spare--again, the main issue of going non-RFT after having RFT with no spare is the safety benefit especially with having kids in the car, etc. Some have suggested going non-RFT and putting a can of Fix-A-Flat in the car.

Or calling AAA?

I agree. Joining AAA would be cheaper than the upcharge on RFT's. I intend to do just that once my factory tires wear out. 21k and counting. Should be able to get another 15 on them.

Here is my thought on this. I am making the decision to get rid of runflats once they wear out and go without a spare other than the can of fix-a-flat.

I am fine with risking the inconvienence of being stranded waiting for AAA.

Now you say, what if the wife and kids are in the car themselves?

Well, my wife isnt one to change a tire on the side of the road in the first place, so if she gets a flat, she is either calling me or AAA anyway.

Also for those who are so inclined, you can buy (albeit at higher cost than if purchased as a vehicle option) the inflatable spare and keep it in the cubby.
