Delivery is this Friday -What should I expect & be ready for
Finally my X5 is here....will be delivered sometime Friday. What should I expect, be ready for and lookout? I know orange peel is not even worth mentioning since they won't do anything about it. What things to look for other than dings, scratches etc? Anything that can be fixed after the delivery is fine if it's covered. This is my first BMW and I want to be ready and don't want to get scammed by the dealer. Thanks for yall's time. |

This comes up weekly...my rec'd is pick it up in daylight/good weather and make sure you have set aside plenty of time vs. getting dropped off,
grabbling car and driving home in the dark to show the neighbors. Spend all the time you need with the sales guy, and avoid becoming emoted over a new car. Stoicism is your friend. good luck and congrats! Have them check tire pressure since they tend to over-inflate for transport. Make sure they pair you phone, do some settings like the door locks, etc and have them activate the sat radio if you ordered that option! Don't forget your camera so you show us pics!!!

-Never thought about the trucker's report; worth the question.
-Should not be out of alignment, unless the trucker was an idiot. Imo, factory balance is great outta the box. -If it is a state with front plates, and you are driving it back to a no front plate state, yes...but, the genius sales guy should have asked or, is aware. -Maybe ask them for the 'delivery inspection/service'. Imo, some dlrs simply wash the sumbitch off, the $8 an hour 'detail kid' over buffs it, and they drive it out front for you. But, I am a cynic and these new BMWs are very complex beasts. -The sales guy should sit in the front seat with you and go through any/all of your questions until you feel comfortable. Even our knucklehead did that, way back in '01, and the Hyundai guy spent 1 1/2 hrs with my CEO when she picked up her new Tucson last May. -I have always asked for a careful walk around, a 'systems check out' and a couple mile ride before I signed the check. In 1982 I took delivery of a new Mercedes 300D. After doing all of the necessary paperwork, I left the dealer only to turn around immediately to tell the sales agent that I had a vibration. He said it's probably the tire balance and they would address it at the 1,000 mile check. I agreed that would be fine.
3 driveshafts, 2 sets of wheels and several visits to the dealer never resolved this vibration. At 50k I gave up and traded it in. To this day, no one gets my check until I have driven the vehicle. The dealer will want to do the paperwork and hand you the keys. I insist on taking delivery first and then I sign the papers and hand over the check. Your inspection should take place before you actually buy the car. |

Don't worry about the time. You're the customer, let him explain and show you and take it for a ride, walk around, inspect, ask questions. You're not going to learn everything about the vehicle or what it can do in an hour anyway.
