Front windscreen wipers dead..
I was driving in the rain yesterday and all of a sudden my front windscreen wipers stopped working. Pulling the lever up or down did nothing, and either did the auto function. The front washer jets worked once or twice but then even they stopped working. It was pretty dangerous having sprayed the window with the washer jets and having my windscreen wipers stuck half way up not being able to see a thing... I sent the car in this morning for them to have a look at but i'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue.. |

So its been a week since I sent my car in and I thought i'd give everyone an update..
turns out there is an electronic control module that controls all the electronics of the car..apparently that failed so they replaced that. Subsequently they found out that another module fried itself which also made the wiper relay burn out as well. They ordered the parts and replaced it today as well.. I then got a call from the dealer telling me that apparently it takes 10 hours to reprogram all of those modules!! ![]() After the replacement of each module they told me the car would be ready the next day.. now its 5 days later.. anyone else had a strange experience there the dealer told them it would take a ridiculous amount of time to reprogram a car?? I'm not in any rush to get it back as they have given me a courtesy car though..but seriously what would take 10 hours to reprogram! |

I've discussed this with a tech, and it is a bit more complicated.
Generally they hook the car up and go off and do other work... then when they have a chance, they check the load of a module, and if OK, then on to the next program/module. It would be faster if it had undivided attention, but it is not one single programming session. Oh, and that leaves out the BS where modules fail to program and PUMA scratches their heads then says "maybe try new activation codes?" The whole programming process seems astonishingly complete and incompetent. Clearly in-house BMW programming! |
