True that. But I'd call the X5M a want more than a need.

PS: I'm averaging 17+ with the X5 50i. I get 20 on the highway and even with a lot of commuting, I can still see a 17-18 average.

I suppose I'll chime in since I am in a similar dillema... My limiting factor is storage space. I don't have the luxury of having an SUV and a "fun car" at this time. So, I need to wrap them both into the same package. Is the X5M a sports car, nope. But it may satisfy that niche while offering the utility of the SUV. I'd love to park a 911 TT in my garage, but that would put one of our other cars in storage or in the street (which is not doable in my area).
My point is that the "get a 50 and an older M3" is not always an option.

your concern is different from the OP and there is always an option like below

Option A - Buy a lift that can fit your current garage/space and lift your 911 and park the X5 underneath like shown in the link
D7 Four Post Car Lift, stacking cars one on top of the other

Option A is an ultimate garage set-up. Closed heated garage with lift = win

Option B - Sell other cars that would be used less after getting an E70

Option C - Extreme act is to buy a new house (they're cheap nowadays plus you can stimulate the economy) and move from the area if parking outside is not doable or not safe

Set priorities and practicality then the rest will fall into place

Just trying to help here and were on same team.

I like the way you think!
Regarding the lift....I have seriously thought about it! I would need to change the garage doors around, have two lower cars (the Subaru would work below the 911), and most importantly, I would have to trust my kids and the neighbor kids around the lift...and I really dont'. I realize that there are safety items on the lifts. Plus it would clutter the garage so much and I'm way too anal for that.

Sell the other cars? Can't do that....The other cars are the 2011 Yukon Denali XL (wife's daily with kids) and a 2011 135i vert (shared wife/me daily with two kids or less). I had choose the last "extra" car (2009 GT-R), so she choose this one. I have two years until she has to give the 135 up.

Buy a new house? It would be easier to get a new wife and family.....
