Covisint,

My X5 has entered the "Start of Production" stage. Do you have any progress on your end?

Fiver,

Thanks for the follow-up. Yes and no. It finally went into production and when it did I noticed that the OC did not mention my rear seat entertainment. As it turns out, the dealer did not order the rear entertainment system . . . which is a must have for my little ones. Since the car was already in production it was too late to install the rear entertainment system. The best the dealer could offer was to install a system at the dealer upon the car's arrival. I said, "Thanks, but no thanks." So the dealer re-ordered another X5 with the rear entertainment, so the clock starts all over for me . . . do not pass go, do not collect your $200, go back to the very beginning. Bummer.

In any case, glad to hear that you are well on your way to getting yours. Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Also, I was able to attend an Ultimate Drive event at one of my local dealers this weekend and test drove an X3, so I should get an email with a code any day now from BMW that will save me an additional $1000 when I purchase the car. If you haven't had the opportunity, I would highly recommend.

Covisint,

Sorry to hear that you are back at the beginning. On the positive side, you will have one awesome ride in about 4 weeks. Thanks for the tip regarding test drive discount. Based on your email, it sounds that the discount will still apply to us even though we have already placed an order but haven't yet technically purchased the X5. It will be well worth the trip to my dealer. Best hourly rate I ever made.

AwesomeM3,

Same question as Rez, where did you get your 3M Clear Bra applied? Do you have any suggestion in the Philly or South New Jersey area? I need to get this scheduled in the next week or 2.

Thanks!

Great car !
Re the 3m, it is a compromise between coverage and visibility. I opted to have the lower front bumper covered (up to the bottom of the lights), but opted to leave the bonnet - which would have resulted in a visible line across it. Also had the wheel arches, fenders and door mirrors covered. You can't see it at all.
The extent to which it's needed depends on the roads you drive on and in particular the amounts of grit. I have friends (around London) with X5 M sports who haven't had any chipping (and no 3m fitted) as there's pretty much no grit on our roads. I however decided to play it safe particularly as I'm off to the Alps this winter.

Rez & Fiver,

Clear Choice Detailing, owner's name is Glen, very nice guy. Came out to my house, but you can have it done at his shop if you prefer. He's 3M certified and all he does is clear bra installs.

Sounds like somebody got promoted at work, fiver. Congrats on the new ride. Did you opt for the 20" or 19" wheels?
