If you have comfort access, just put your hand on the door and open it. It will unlock and lock the same way. The car doesn't know if the fob is in the car or in your pocket.

I guess a simple test drive of a car is not sufficient nowdays - you have to spend some love time with car in order to learn some ways around it... like, the comfort access... or whatever else they offer...

But if the key is in your pocket, and the doors lock, there's no problem.

It's simple really

^^ yes.

The ghost locking happened to me at the dealer. Service advisor puts fob on the dash, shuts the door and the truck locked itself. They said it happens from time to time. Fail.

I think I saw somewhere a post about water running on the door handle (heavy rain) and the windows and sunroof open all the way... Exactly opposite of what we would like to do in the rain!!!!

Strange feature...

My guess it's the unintended consequence of using touch sensors, i.e. over-engineering for the sake of over-engineering; CA in my Mini has conventional push-buttons in door handles and in 3+ yrs. has been flawless (knock on wood).

yes it does. which is why if you start the car and exit it (to load the trunk for example) it beeps at you and displays on the screen that the key is not present.

My infiniti works the same way. I cannot shut the trunk if they keys are in the trunk, nor can i lock the doors from the outside if the keys are in the inside.

I have CA and I've had it lock as soon as I close the door (I put my hand on the handle) but it unlocked right away because the keys dropped from my pocket to the side of the seat. Guess it was a proximity then a closed-door thing and it detected correctly. I was wondering for a while why it wouldn't lock.

You have a malfunction... of course showing the dealer is a problem because you have to prove it. I'd recommend trying to replicate it at home while videotaping it. They've accepted video as validation for me.

And by the way, someone posted almost the same problem like 4 or 5 years ago... locked their kid in the car with the keys in the purse.

same thing happened to my wife on a loaner that we had. It was a 2012 diesel and she put her purse on the seat,,closed the door and it locked,,and couldn't get it unlocked until we called the dealer and they had BMW unlock it for us. My guess is that somehow,,it (car) was not getting the signal that the key was inside or something....IDK
