Thanks OP, doing the same and ordered some NGK - ILZFR6D11 for my 2007 3.0 with 52K. For some reason it says ILZFR6D11 for 2007 and PLZFR6A-11S for 2008+ with same engine?!?!? Plugs are probably pretty worn down by now. I have a E53 as well and hope its just as simple DIY with the E70.

Dirty or fouled is that better?!?! Is it so hard to believe that YES a BMW combustion engine does need to have it's spark plugs replaced. Why the negative feeling regarding replacing spark plugs? Because its not recommended by BMW or covered under their maintenance plan? I mean for $75 and maybe 30mins, its a pretty good maintenance option?

Changing out your plugs because you think they need to be replaced is like changing your lug nuts because you just think they need to be replaced. Edit to add: changing out spark plugs used to be endorsed by BMW, and was part of their inspection II procedure. Newer engines don't foul plugs out and are much cleaner burning these days. The need for changing spark plugs isn't what it used to be. |
