Thanks OP, doing the same and ordered some NGK - ILZFR6D11 for my 2007 3.0 with 52K. For some reason it says ILZFR6D11 for 2007 and PLZFR6A-11S for 2008+ with same engine?!?!? Plugs are probably pretty worn down by now. I have a E53 as well and hope its just as simple DIY with the E70.

It is. Dont worry if you'd done it on your E53 you'll be able to do it on a E70.

Dirty or fouled is that better?!?! Is it so hard to believe that YES a BMW combustion engine does need to have it's spark plugs replaced. Why the negative feeling regarding replacing spark plugs? Because its not recommended by BMW or covered under their maintenance plan? I mean for $75 and maybe 30mins, its a pretty good maintenance option?

True! and while you'll do it have a look at the air filter.

One can clean the plugs. They shouldn't foul out unless there's something else wrong. Perhaps people just don't understand spark plugs...?

Why the defensive attitude? Do you know what you're talking about? That is an honest question...or are you just assuming that since they're used for X number of miles, they should be replaced? That logic is true with a lot of items on any vehicle...but not necessarily with spark plugs.

Changing out your plugs because you think they need to be replaced is like changing your lug nuts because you just think they need to be replaced.

Edit to add: changing out spark plugs used to be endorsed by BMW, and was part of their inspection II procedure. Newer engines don't foul plugs out and are much cleaner burning these days. The need for changing spark plugs isn't what it used to be.

Here is replacing your lug nuts what an idiot.
50K miles on 2002 X5

The attitude is for people like you, who doesn't provide any useful info to this thread except for say why change spark plugs at all?!?! And the quote of the year should be: "changing sparkplug is like changing lugnuts". We should all have that in our signatures.

That proves what?

Oh, by the way, have you ever cleaned plugs? A cleaned plug works just as well as a fresh one. You must really not understand how spark plugs work...

Ok you are so right, folks should just clean them instead. I am going to drop this as we all can read and see from the above.
