Question Replaced DDE

So I get an email from my SA that they are now replacing the Digital Diesel Electronics (DDE).

Long story short, this past weekend I noticed via iDrive that the "Engine Oil was Too High." I checked manually with the dispstick and it was slightly over. Bring to the dealer and they adjust the oil level, but car was still showing the message in iDrive. They replace the oil sensor, but still same message. Next step is to replace the DDE as per PUMA.

I do not have the codes (sorry Ard ), but how concerned should I be that the DDE is being replaced? Car is 2.4 yrs w/21K, and other than recalls, has been great. I'm now a bit nervous Pandora's Box has been open and I'll end up getting excessive battery drain or other electronic gremlins...The car has been at the dealer since Monday.

my e70 diesel has been in for nearly 2 weeks, originally because battery issues were causing other faults, oil level being one of the issues. They replaced the battery and the oil sensor, went through a couple software tests, and are now checking wiring harnesses for shorts. They are about to do their next puma (did one already on this but no luck) so now I guess I should expect a new DDE if we are both having the same problem. Will let you know tomorrow. BTW, what happened with yours? Problem solved?

^^ If you do a "search" for other posts by the OP, you will find more details on his story...

But in the end, it was fixed.

Thanks. Good read. My car has now been in the shop for 2 weeks. I haven't gotten to the end of the story with my "oil level too high" saga...

DDE now on order from BMW, with a mid-March delivery. I think they are building a new one since they have none in stock. Car is apparently drivable as I got it back until the part comes in. Not sure if there are any other faults other than the false high oil reading being caused by this failed DDE, or if this is going to be the solution to my problem.

Thats stunning...

Have you reached the 'days out of service' lemon limit for your state?

Recognize that your dealer is likely not telling you the whole truth... if the car was out of service, you can be sure you'd have a DDE in a week!

Yeah, maybe you should have refused to take it back until completely fixed. This way the days would be adding up and if the DDE doesn't resolve your issue, you would be that much closer to possibly a buy-back.

I can't believe it is going to take until mid-March to get a new DDE. From my DDE experience, they were able to order two DDEs days apart. The first one didn't work, so they ordered another one.

What a PIA. Knock on wood, but since the DDE and IRAP programming, Dieter is going strong.

They were able to speed things up and the DDE is now coming in next Monday. This isn't the only recurring problem that needs fixing after multiple visits (the rear hatch was on the fritz and gets new parts as well after they claimed it was fixed with reprogramming).

No spit.

Know your lemon laws. If you CAN lemon it, consider it as a pure financial move to get into a new X5 with zero miles and a year newer... I did, moved from a 10 with 32k miles to a 12 with 0 for $2500.
