2013 Order Question

Hey all, looks like I will finally be replacing my e53 X5 4.6is with a new X5.

I am looking to purchase the base model (non sport, premium) I really love that there is no sunroof, not loaded with tech, etc.

There is however one thing that bothers me and that is the grey headliner. I would add the sport package if it were an option just to get the black one.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get this option on my order? There isn't much room for options or packages on the base model X5, so I'm not sure how I would go about it. Thanks if anyone can help out!

If you purchase the premium model it will come with the sunroof. The only way to get the anthracite black headliner is on the SAV model. I had to order the SAV w/M sport package to get those options.
I have bought many new cars and would say get all the options you want and pay the money versus regretting it later. It is not easy or cheap to add things the DIY way on the BMW's as you probably know already.
Also being from CT I would imagine the cold weather package would be a must.

I have attached a PDF which shows the cost saving in MY12 (still applies today) where it is cheaper to upgrade to the premium versus base model X5 for a few thousand more. When you're dropping around 50k a few k more doesn't hurt too bad

Thanks for the informative post, that break down is very interesting.

I should have been more clear, I do not want the sunroof, or other options. The only option I have added are heated seats, lol. Call me a minimalist, but I ordered my M3 the same way.

So I'm basically trying to find a way to order the anthracite headliner which comes standard on the Sport Activity model, on the base model. Do you think this will be possible? And you read my mind about going the DIY route on the headliner, lol. Rather avoid it for sure.

I am really not sure how to go about that headliner. The only thing I could offer would be to tell the dealer you have to get that option or you will take your money elsewhere. They all go through the same assembly line in SC so perhaps they may work with you.

I went to the Regensburg factory and watched my buddy's 2009 M3 coupe go through there and it is an awesome sight watching all the machinery. In Germany the old saying goes "it's not possible" (I heard that all the time when I was stationed there) but perhaps since the X5's are produced here, maybe you could leverage them to include it. Worth a shot.
