Voice Control Interface Issues - Need Help

I have a 2008 X5 e70 with nav, phone, bluetooth. Its a fully loaded system short of rear entertainment.

Here is the issues.
When I press the voice commend icon (on left side of steering wheel) I can't hear the beep.

I can say a commend and the system hears it and accepts it.
I can say the commend really quiet and the system still hears it.

This did work before and I think I turned it off or down somehow.

-I tried to reset using two eject buttons and idrive button (nothing, still got the issue)
-I tried resetting pressing idrive button for 30 seconds: this is not a working function on my car
-I tried screaming at the system while turning up the idrive knob: nothing did reset

Text Language selected is English.

My nav direction are also not spoken, you can hear the music lower but you cant hear the direction narration.

How do I reset this?

Please help.

Did you check the icons down the left side if the nav display and make sure the mute is off?
Other than that I am at a loss

Yes, the speaker is unchecked (as in no dash across the speaker).

I must have turned down the volume somehow, or have turned off the beep sound.

Really frustrating, everything else work great.

Diabolically simple and typical German logic.

Turn the volume button during the time interval the voice command is active. It's covered on page 154 of your owners manual.

A German would look at you with utter astonishment and say "if you vunt za beep louder, turn up za wolume ven ist beeping".

Please do not ask how I know this.

Ciao,
Dick

Hi Greg. Press the voice button and look at your center display. A Face icon should appear in the lower left corner of the center display. Remain absolutely silent for at least seven seconds, and the system will say "I couldn't understand you...." at a sound level you are comfortable with.

When you hear the voice, immediately turn up the volume.

Did that work?

Ciao,
Dick

No.

When I press the "face" button I see the image of the face on the center display and wait quietly.
I do not hear the "I can't understand you...." and try to turn the idrive know clockwise, but get no positive results.

Here is another forum and same problem.

Hi Gregg: Lets see if I clearly understand your problem. You are not hearing the 'beep' or any of the "voice commands" that the X-5 audio system produces.

If that is in fact the case, you must turn the volume control, not the I-Drive knob. The I-Drive knob is useful for increasing map resolution, but is of no value in increasing the sound level.

Below is an image cut from page 154 of the Owner's Manual. Hopefully you have the manual and looked at the section on page 154.

Try this:
1.Look at the image below.
2.Start the car and wait a minute or two.
3.Find the corresponding volume control knob in your automobile, and place your hand upon this control.
4.Press the voice command button on the steering , quietly count to two, and at a normal speaking voice, say "Options"
5.Two seconds after saying 'Options", quickly rotate the volume control several complete turns clockwise.
6.Kindly report back if this solves your problem.

Ciao,
Dick

thank you for working with me on this.

I did as you said (by the way I think I said idrive by mistake before).

I turned the car on and let it fully boot up.

pressed the face and saw an icon of face on the screen,
said options and waited two seconds before I started rotating the volume know clockwise at fast rate (other times at slow rate)

still nothing.

I think something is broken.
