4k is a reasonable dealer price for those two modules plus programming....you can look for the CIC at BMWofsouth atlanta dot com, but recognize that it needs maps loaded and programming...

Hi Ard, they said the Warranty is sending their people to check for the parts themselves, bmw is not saying is water, but the warranty once they look at part will say is water and not replace, I will look at bmwof south and see what they have.

Also my full warranty bmwnyc just told me it just finish, how does this work, is this 4 years from the time the car was built, I am trying to make sure they are not telling me it just finish for their own sake

You might argue that the fault was that BMW failed to provide adequate drainage, and/or they failed to provide adequate maintenance procedures to ensure the drainage didnt get blocked...THIS was the defect, and the result was water damage.

This is a common issue on cars that live outside.

Such an argument would require a court case, IMO...and certainly would only apply under the terms of the original warranty. BTW- it is 4 years from the "in service date" which should be when you purchased the car.

Finally Blue' brings up a good point- If the CIC isnt in the trunk, Id wonder if the diagnosis is correct. What did you get in writing? just the SA lying to you verbally?

Well the SA just called and said the CIC was bad, but he is getting my Repair Advantage MAX warranty to cover that, for the trunk, R.A.M is sending someone to look at it, and they will see is water damage, so he said he doesn't think they will cover it once they look at it. I am not sure what you mean by IMO, I bought this car last year used, from a regular dealer not bmw dealer in NJ. My car is still in the shop,

The 'IMO' was that to press an argument that the water drainage design defect, or the defective maintenance procedures, caused the failure would not be something they'd agree to as a warranty claim. Youd need to sue. Doesnt matter where you bught the car, the warranty is transferable. The in service date is the FIRST buyers initial use.

What is the cost down to now? If RAM decides the damage in the trunk fried the CIC, that would be no good....

^^ You don't have a CIC, you have a CCC, and it seems to work perfectly fine based on the pictures that you posted at the beginning of the thread. If you are getting SOS failure, its because your TCU is fried.

Go to car-part.com. Search for Computer box, non engine, then communications. You can find a TCU for $100. Then you will need someone to program it. There are no FSC codes or anything like that for the TCU, its straight programming for the VIN and chassis model etc.



Problem solved, some of you guys make a big deal when some of these issues are so easy to fix with readily available parts.

^^ He's not sticking it to you, he's simply telling what he would charge to replace with brand new parts and do the programming etc.

From the same site, you can get a satellite radio module for $300 or so. If it was my car, I could fix it for $400 and code it myself.
