Air spring

I damaged my left rear air spring going over the GW bridge, this is a picture of it with the GT1 code, I replaced it with one from the dealer, I didn't know if the after market was as good.Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1372270331.059475.jpg

Aftermarket?

FYI, many BMW dealers have "internet storefronts" that sell OE parts at far less than brick and mortar...indeed, getbmwparts.com is BMW of Silver Springs. Prices at store are nowhere near what you get online.

Dont assume your dealer is the only choice for OE BMW parts!

Nicely done, BTW. Great to see more DIY in the E70....

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
I definitely don't think the bridge did the damage, I think that the rubber has aged and produced enough of a hole to leak, BMW doesn't make these air springs out of long term rubber for whatever reason!

I think the other side spring probably looks similar to what you took off, good luck keeping that ass up in the air now!

FYI to other E70 guys, Neil texted me and I looked up online to find aftermarket air springs and it seems like they are not available yet for E70, unlike the E53 which you can use Arnott Industries replacements half of what the dealer charges and with a lifetime warranty..

Yes it was dry rotted, there are at lest one company in FL that had the air spring for half the price as the dealer but it was Their own product, I needed to get back on the road so I went with the original from the dealer, and as mentioned some dealers are on ebay with OEM spring for $40 bucks less, I will buy the other air spring from them and install it when I receive it, BMW recommend using ISTA to lower and raise the spring for the E70 so I am waiting for my ICOM system to arrive.
Thank you jay.
