basora, that's interesting.

So if MSRP is $67k, invoice is about $62k (these are slightly round numbers from a car I was looking at), my starting point before eco and loyalty is $2k below invoice? Are there other discounts going on that aren't publicized? Or is BMW trying to unload inventory which doesn't make sense since the next model d won't be out till next year...

Yes! Correct.

This is truly a clearance event. They have over a thousand vehicles to get rid of to make room for the 2014 (not yet on the showroom floor).

See attached example:
MSRP: $66,225 (New 2013 BMW X5 xDrive35d For Sale in Fairfax VA | 5UXZW0C59D0B96122 | Serving Washington DC)
Advertised selling Price: $58,951
Factor: 0.89 times MSRP

Beautiful car BTW, I almost bought it but it doesn't have the suspension I want. Note that under Sport Package it says specifically "sport suspension - delete" (that means no Adaptive Drive!). There isn't a single new diesel in the entire USA that has AD. Some have Self Leveling suspension (NOT the same as AD), but you will end up with a 3rd row seat.

... and this is BEFORE $3,500 ECO credit and $1,000 loyalty cash (must be previous BMW owner) ...

Other dealers in the area are matching these prices.

One more word of advise: if you are trading, negotiate the trade separately! The dealers will excite you with an attractive new car price, but will rape you on your trade. I've been getting "trade-in" appraisal that are 10% BELOW Manheim wholesale prices. Deal transparency is key: ask to see the Manheim prices BEFORE you accept the trade offer.

Then they get you on "dealer doc fees" ... separate story but same issue: everything is negotiable ... pay what you think is reasonable.

GL.
