Diagnostic help (INPA errors posted)
Hi all,
I have my new to me 2007 x5 4.8 for roughly 4-5 months now. I have had an issue with the truck for a month where it will go into limp mode on me. This primarily happens when I apply cruise control. It will say cruise malfunction and then go into limp mode. It will also sometime pop up with 4x4 errors. I would have to pull off the road or highway and then restart, then all would be fine...until it happened again. I have been reading the codes with INPA and they mostly point towards the throttle position sensor. Just recently the car will continue to crank and not start or run really rough when it does start. The most recent iterations of codes include (translated from german): differential pressure sensor: surge pipe plausibility mass airflow sensor throttle valve throttle valve (1-2) 3 throttle body errors I can reset the codes and the car runs fine, but it is only a matter of time before it goes back into limp mode or will not start. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what I should replace or how to continue diagnosing the problem? I have INPA/DIS and other dealer programs. I have replaced the battery 1-2 weeks ago and followed the registration process DIY posted on the forums I'd appreciate any help or tips |

drove the car today after I cleared the codes. The car completely just died out on me and would not start. Ended up clearing the codes and unplugging the maf....car has run fine since.
I'm going to take the maf out and clean it. Is it possible my maf is on its way out or is already bad? I was under the impression that a maf should last longer than 62k miles. |

I would guess some electrical problem in the connector of the TB,but could be something else. All errors are related to it and their count is equal.
Of course the best tool for diagnose is DIS/ISTA because you can run test schedules and there is a fair amount of explanations of how any given system works. |

totally stock? No "performance" air filter?
Clean the MAF, if it gets slightly better replace the MAF. also look for air leaks into the intake stream between MAF and intake plenum... |

I appreciate the help! Quote:
Totally stock, using a non-oiled dry filter. Will clean maf, check for leaks and report back. Thanks! |

If you use DIS or INPA they will guide you thru the test schedule. It is pretty straightforward.

Tried DIS but was having communication errors, just realized I still had my firewall on...While I was in there I cleared codes and one kept coming back
"drosselklappensteller, abbruch bei UMA-Wiederlernen" Definitely have to get DIS working to run some tests. |

I believe that is related to the TB adaptation, but DIS will help a lot with the diagnosis.
