I have been reading through all the comments on this thread today (don't know why I didn't read it months ago... this is some FUNNY SH!!!!T)

...and yes, I sympathize with the OP because I take a similar view on proper care and responsibility regardless of the value of the vehicle.
When I bought my X5 I was a little nervous about leaving it in my wife's hands and sure enough it didn't take her long.
Strike 1. She "misjudged" the garage entrance (she's been using it for years by the way) and destroyed the driver's side fender and wheel arch flare.
Strike 2. All of a month later she managed to reverse into a tree at the end of the driveway while reversing out of the garage...yes, the vehicle has reverse camera and PDC. The tree connected the X5 just to the left of the camera. The view from the screen must have been AMAZING!!! Considerable damage to the tailgate.
Strike 3. She was "forced" onto the soft shoulder while on the freeway by a speeding motorist and took out a bunch of helpless roadworks chevrons. That little incident took care of the bumper, the front PDC, the left headlight and spot light, the left fender and sundries R90 000 ($9000) repair bill.
After that last one I am cured. My wife can't drive for beans but I love her dearly and with all she does for me and our daughter I now choose to turn a blind eye for fear of going mad!!!

Interesting Thread. To answer; my wife doesn't like driving the X so that's a plus. but to be honest if she did what you describe to the X I'm sure she would apologize and even offer to fix it. However since this has been a 36 year marriage what would be the point? It would get fixed and I would move on. Bottom line yes I'm picky about the X, she knows it and makes every effort to be careful if she has to drive it.

Happened to me as well but I drove my X5 until it happened to the other wheel. Shopped around South Florida for 2 weeks trying to find a repair shop at a reasonable price. Lowest I could find was $150 per wheel until I found a hub cap / used tire dealer who repaired them for $75 each. Excellent work. Looks brand spanking new. ...so YES, I let my wife drive my car (when absolutely necessary) because $75/wheel is CHEAP compared to the cost of a happy marriage.

Evidently, you're not married, or at least not happily. If you are, you should write a how-to-book.

BTW, the guy who repaired my rims said use only soap and water for cleaning and no need to apply a wax. Anyone follow this advice? I read somewhere that Motegi Wheel Wax is good.

To the other poster^^.. try telling your wife to walk or ride the bike cuz you're afraid she might scratch your wheels. You'd be writing a totally different kind of book
As for the wax, it's totally safe.Much easier to keep the wheels cleaner in between washes.

I wash my vehicle every Sunday afternoon (almost...) And have only ever used soap and water. Funny, I wash it on Sunday and my lovely wife gets to dirty it all over again the following day and through the week. Like they say in the real world..."Just because you paid for it, don't make it yours".
