Now ... a cursory look at REALOEM shows that X6 MY 2007, '08, '09 and '10 all have single piston calipers ...

He said when he searched out "42/36/365" it took him to the 2008 BMW X6 xdrive50i and said it came with a dual piston caliper. The calipers I have have those castings on it as well as BMW cast into them. It has to come from someone I just hope it's correct this time.
I'll give and update and phones once they come in and I install them. |

A thought occurred to me that dual piston calipers is usually an upgrade .... sure enough the 2008+ X6 M has dual piston calipers!
Mystery solved. ... BTW, those are $700+ (MSRP) calipers EACH! Nice upgrade.

I thought X6 M calipers were 4 piston Brembo calipers, exactly the same as on the X5.

Ok so the brakes from the 2008 X6 xdrive50i fit perfect. BUT whoever owned it before me only put the brakes from the X6 on the passenger side. Yes I said that right. The passenger side has a larger rotor and dual piston caliper while the drivers side has stock X5 brakes. So now I need to source a X6 caliper and caliper bracket to fit the rotors and pads I have.
What kind of moron would do this? At first I thought maybe he did it to sell it but the pads and rotors are wore and look like they were on there for a while. Now this car has me worried about what else did this moron do to it. |

You may also experience uneven braking ... Get 1 new/used stock calipers ($300?) and buy (my) stock rotors and pads. Done!

I just can't believe someone would be so dumb and I'm shocked the car didn't pull to the right while braking since the rotor was bigger and the caliper had more clamping force. In any case it will be fixed when I get back. Hopefully the moron before me didn't do anything else dumb to it. |

Sounds like maybe the truck was in an accident or had a bent front suspension that was swapped out for a wrecker part......who knows which side (maybe owner did "upgrade" both but then put back on stock or body shop or "indy" replaced one with correct stock, a reach but who knows.....

I got it from a dealer lot so I doubt I'll ever find out why they only replaced the one but not the other. Either way it was one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. When it comes to brakes I don't play games and it's the one things I check 3 to 4 times when I'm working on them for mistakes. I really am shocked the car didn't pull to the right when braking. Even my indy said the same thing. Thanks. So much going on this week the BMW is kind of the least of my worries. |
