I can close the tailgate with the button once and opens every time. Functions like it should until the upper tailgate lock locks onto something. Then no more closing with any button.
Another thing i noticed is that i dont get a trunk open light on the dash...Ever... Maybe the car thinks that the trunk is closed? Can it be that it is why he trunk tries to go up when i press the close button?
Mistery to me still butt hopefully not for too long. I will get to the end of it,no giving up
it feels like hall sensors are not reporting correctly. the hall sensors tell the brain when to stop, and if the gate is open or closed. if a sensor is not reporting, or reporting intermittently then the system may get confused.

From what i remember, the hall sensors are inside the spindles, they are not on the gate or gate frame (not like a security sensor "bug" on a house door).

Check for chaffed cabling going to each of the strut - they are inside a grommet, and you might need to pry the rubber grommet out to see if the wires inside lost any insulation. also, if you "knead" the wire bundle with your fingers, check to see if the light comes on the dash for the tailgate - it may point to a chaffed wire.

There is also the brain for this operation, i think somewhere in the trunk packets...

these types of problems are the worst to trace but it gives you a starting point.
