Got my invitation to check out the X6 this Friday but it looks like we won't make this one. No big deal though as it would not be a consideration for us.

X6 Review Quote

When I read the June 2008 Winding Road review by Matt Davis of the BMW X6 that LeMansX5 posted, I was amused with the very cutting and glib, yet accurate and appropriate statement that really does sum up this vehicle and its most likely market very succinctly, whether we are willing to admit it or not:

"The X6 is a niche crossover for the affluent wastefuls out there who crave individualistic form over individualistic function. Basically, it is a silly SUV for people with enough fun money to never worry about home foreclosures."

Now, will that observation stop some from buying or leasing a X6? Probably not. But for many of us who fall in the category stated in this review, even we can't rationalize spending the money for this vehicle. When BMW finally makes the TTV8 an option in the X5, it will go a long way to satisfy those of us that really do need decent cargo capacity for trips and comfortable seating for 4 adults, while not sacrificing acceleration power, clear rear visibility and the expected BMW "driving fun factor".

Add DR's review to the mix. When I have had a week in the car I will post up my drive impressions to add to Richard's.

I loved my ML63, owned it for over a year and covered 20,000 enjoyable miles in it. I have written volumes on forums such as MBworld about how far ahead it was compared to other SUVs, and I still ache for that 6.2 litre engine that I found to be powerful 'and' frugal.

Recently that bar moved though, I ran a Cayenne GTS for a week and its chassis edged ahead of even my favourite AMG, but the X6 has made the GTS seem archaic. I was really worried that selling my ML63 for an X6 would be a bad decision, but I am really glad to find that BMW (for once) haven't let us down.

Now all I need to figure out is how to fit AMG's V8 in the beemer..
