So, do I need a mounting cage, bracket, anything for the bluetooth module? The cradle in the center console...the phone really doesn't fit in there, it just has a button to pair the phone, correct? The antenna and antenna cable plug into where my purple connector is now, I guess? Thanks again, Joe Clark |

You can mount it as shown in IFlyX5's article for a 2003 using the BMW bracket, or you can mount it as I did in my article for a 2001 retrofit. My install didn't require a separate bracket - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...01-bmw-x5.html
The cradle in the console has the button for pairing the phone. It also accepts the snap-in adaptor for certain phones, should you decide to go that route down the road.

My problem is that I don't have the black bracket for the DVD nav unit so I don't have a ready-made place to mount the antenna like it shows there, but apparently the bt module bracket doesn't require it, it mounts below, so I'll probably get it....any suggestions on the other items such as the antenna? Just zip tie it out of the way or what?

Also, on the same page as my other concerns, this unit I bought is an 06 unit that is a combo bt/assist module. It appears from my reading that 05 and up units didn't have a pair button at all...so, how is this supposed to work and what parts do I need/not need with this in mind?
Thanks, Joe Clark |

I pretty sure the Motorola combo Assist/BT module won't work in an X5 produced before April of 2004. You need a Visteon BT module for a 2003.

What is the limitation? I mean, what makes 2004+ vehicles work with this unit while other, older units won't? Is it something I can replace or should I just re-ebay this module and look for a std. part #'d ulf module?
Thanks, Joe Clark |

Piecing together kits can cause wasted time and fustration unless you have experience in the field, we have retrofit kits that have a lot of time and effort spent in making the install pain-free.
