BT/Assist help requested

I have a 2004 X5 (8/04 build) with the combo 2005 style BT/Assist module ending in -056. I'm having two problems:

1) I don't have voice control, even though I have the combo module ending in -056. My dealer (BMW SF) can't seem to solve this issue for me. Doesn't matter how long I press the steering wheel button for...

2) My "ring" inside the cabin when connected through the audio system is deafiningly loud -- any way to adjust? It's so loud that my wife has had me de-pair her phone as it drove her nuts...

Thanks!

I suspect your TCU doesn't have the voice control and you will most likely need a second unit. Ask the dealership to open a PUMA case with BMW tech. If they won't find another dealer... I think the bay area has the highest concentration of BMW dealers anywhere.

For the volume, I'm sure you tried the obvious... adjust the volume on the phone, try turning the volume down on the radio as a call is coming in....

1) Sounds to me like you need to install a separate VR module. Have your dealer get one and plug it in and see if it works, and then if it does try to find a used one on eBaY.

2) Like Jeff said above, when a call is coming in and the phone is ringing, adjust the volume via the steering wheel volume control buttons.

Good luck,

Greg

The -056 TCU definitly does have VR commands for the phone (only). I had one, and it worked fine ...

Is the SES jumper plug on ... that can cause issues if its not. Its a blue connector with a termination plug on it.

Another possiblity is they messed something up in the coding process for the TCU ... unlikely though.

Dont give up though. Demand they get it fixed and as suggested above, get them to open a PUMA case. It normally only takes a couple of days to get a response from BMW ... and in these situations they will probably get the Tech to try a new TCU, with the latest part# !
