Bluetooth retrofit (Visteon) and Treo 700p
I have been searching and it appears that at some people are having trouble (as I am) getting the (Verizon) Treo 700p bluetooth connection to work. Here's what I have:
2004 330i with retrofit bluetooth kit using a relatively recent Vistron ULF module (84 21 6 955 522) with the standard radio head unit (not Nav). I would consider upgrading the newest Visteon module if someone demonstrated that it would work. It seems some people with newer BMW's get the Treo 700p to work but they would probably have the Motorola TCU (bluetooth and BMW Assist) versus the Visteon TCU (bluetooth only). Any advice from someone who has gotten their Treo 700p to work with a Visteon retrofit bluetooth kit would be greatly appreciated. I pair the 700p with the BMW and the Treo thinks the BMW is a headset (the bluetooth icon changes to a headset). No "Favorites" phone numbers are transferred from the Treo to the car. I can dial through the TCU via voice commands ("Dial number", etc) and the phone dials, but no sound comes out through the BMW system, either the sound is muted or it drops the connection after dialing. Sometimes trying to activate the phone via the steering wheel buttons sends the radio in never-never land with the headunit displaying "Phone" and refusing to switch back to the radio, CD or any input. Shutting off the radio for a period of time seems to fix it. I have only phone numbers in my "favorites" list on the Treo (i.e. no commas etc, which causes problems with the Treo 650). Anyone managed to get the Treo 700p to work with any Visteon module? I would be willing to sell this one and buy the latest generation if anyone has had success... Searching the forums gives a range of answers, it seems that the Treo 650 would work pretty well and I was hoping that the 700p would work as well, but that appears to have been wishful thinking. Any links, help ideas, etc would be appreciated. Arghh! This stuff shouldn't be so difficult. |

It is because Palm needs to release a firmware update for the Treo 700p. Plenty of people have been complaining re: Treo 700p's bluetooth problem....
Check it out at www.treocentral.com and find their forum re: bluetooth My old VZW Treo 650 with the latest firmware had better support than my current VZW Treo 700p. Usually, Palm releases firmware updates for the Treo around October, but I hope it addresses this problem. BTW, my wife has a VZW Motorola RAZR V3c and it pairs and works as advertised with the BMW Bluetooth (Visteon).

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open for a firmware update. I had been using a Verizon Motorola E815 which works great with the Visteon bluetooth module, but I like the calendar/contact functionality of the Treo. Still I use the phone in car quite a bit and I am sorely missing the bluetooth functionality. I have debated reverting back to the E815.

Actually my 700P after some initial problems has been sailing right along. What you describe is exactly the same problem i had. Part of it at least in my case was not realizing that the palms bluetooth must be turned on before starting the vehicle and secondly realizing that once the phone becomes a trusted device you must disregard additional installation instructions because they are just not necessary. But if your having trouble with the 700P follow the directions regarding removing the trusted device completly from the palm and start over with the whole process including providing the Key. That's what I did and it finally decided to work. But let me find the old notes i posted maybe they can be of some help.
OH I forgot to mention I believe my X has a Motorola ULF module which according to Palm was not suppose to work at all. So all of this may be a mute point for you but I thought i would provide the info anyway.

If you can find the explicit steps you followed that would be great. You have phenomenal number of posts on the board, so my searching under your name may not be the most efficient use of my time...;-)
The Visteon and Motorola modules are definitely different, so what works with one may not apply to the other, particularly with things as flakey as bluetooth compatibility appears to be. One would think that by now, these things would be sorted out, bluetooth has been around long enough that it shouldn't be so tricky. I actually upgraded my Visteon ULF from the generation 1 version to the more recent one I am using due to other compatibility issues. |
