Um, It didn't begin loading until after the 3rd time of shutting off and restarting the car. And then it took about an hour to load, during which time it never gave the message "Loading Phonebook" as the manual claimed it would.

So the manual didn't match up at all with the actual behavior of the system.

I find there are 2 types of people on this forum:

1. Incredibly helpful, reasonable, well-meaning folks; and

2. People like you

Yours is actually an improvement over my Pearl. Mine displays the entries as "FirstName LastName - Home." That rather sucks, because I have lots of entries where people share the same first names. I complained to RIM, but they did not sympathize. There is not a setting anywhere in the Pearl OS to affect this change. Can you poke around in your 8800 settings to see if there is now an option to rearrange the name entry construction. That might give me a glimmer of hope that the improvement is coming for my Pearl. (It still sucks, though.)

Brian, I haven't tried this, but I suspect it will work:

- Click on "Address Book"
- Click on the Menu button
- Click on "Options"
- Change the "Sort By" option to "First name"

That should reverse the appearance of the names from "John Doe - Home" to "Doe, John - Home". Hopefully that will also change the way it appears on your X5 display.

I have the pearl and my wife has the 8800. These phones WILL NOT transfer the address book if you have groups set up within your address book. I had 2 groups and once I deleted them my pearl transfered flawlessly.
Her 8800 never had groups and she has no issues with my 06 X5 or her 06 325Xi wagon...
