Bluetooth /Activate Phone

Hi All

I'm new to this forum. Just signed up, but it is def. not new to me ;-)
Love this site. Thx a bunch.

I have large problem though. I'm probably stupid, but so be it;-.(

My BMW has 16:9 navi, MK4, bluetooth etc and a few days ago I tried to Pair my phone with the bluetooth system. Ok so far so good.

It paired all right, and my phone got some message from that car, that I needed to put in the code supllied. Here is where it gets tricky......

Cause i accidently "clicked" away from the message on the phone, and now I cand find it again. (trust me I have been all over in Setting on the phone.

So the problem is now that the menupoint Telephone in the navi just shows "Activate Phone". And I cant get out of this menupoint, and try to pair it over again. Or pair another phone. Its waiting for someting!!!

I can off course just hit the menu button on the navi, and get back to all the other functions. No problem. A.o. the navi off course works perfectly.

But when I, from the menu, goes back to "Phone" its just stands there waiting for the telephone to send something back.

How can i "reset this", or get out from this menu.

Any sweet ideas guys ??

(Please dont just write that it is a cell phone problem, cause it MUST be possible to hit "escape" on the BMW navi)

Maybe an idea to disconnect the battey from the poles.??? Any experiences with this ?? Is it safe, or does "everything" has to be reprogrammed ??

Sorry lots of Q's but I'm in trouble

Thx in advance

Quicksilver will become famous soon enough
Since you gave very little details regarding your vehicle

#1 Turn your phone off. Your vehicle will quit recognizing it.

#2 get your manual for your phone.

#3 Read the part in the manual about pairing your phone.

#4 Start over

Hmm I feared that ;-)

I kinda feard that answer.

That wont help though. The car has been turned off in the meantime, and I have moved away from the car at least 5 km.

Tried to
Turn off phone - no help
Tried to set phone to search again - no help
Tried to holding all the buttons on the nav, for minuttes - no help
Tried turning off car, even overnight - no help
Tried holding the R/T button on the stearing wheel
No light at all in the 3 (red and green ) lights in upper right corner
I DO have the passkey from BMW

As I mentioned, it paired the first time - until I screwed it up

Believe me - its just stuck there.

What happens if I remove bat. for an hour ??

Thx in advance (will be going to bed now though, its 23.50 here ;-(

kr

Hi Danger9999,

Sounds like the pair has not taken properly, the display only says "Activate Phone" if the phone is;

a: out of range
b: not BT enabled on the phone
c: not paired.

Try this.

Press and hold the pair button, (not the MFSW) turn on ignition and hold for 10secs, this will flush the paired phones on the ULF.

Then re-pair the phone to the car.

Turn BT on the phone,
Turn BT seen by all (not hidden) on phone.
Press and hold the pair button, turn ign on and hold for 3secs,
Display should then say pairing phone.
Select search for BT devices on phone.
When found the phone/ULF will ask to pair and ask for the 4 digit code.
Do not press anything other than the correct 4 digit code...(this is what you did wrong first time, this info is not stored on the phone, so you have to repeat the whole process to get back to this point)
You will hear a beep to confirm that the pairing is done.
Then turn off the ignition to confirm that the pairing is complete.

Hope this helps

Did you ever solve this problem? I have exactly the same symptoms and I cannot find out how to fix it.

post #4 will fix the problem, If you have the same problem then the phone is not paired with the ULF. Go through the pairing procedure and you should be OK.

The only thing that I can think of if the phone will still not pair is that the phone can't pair because the ULF is too old or the phone too new.

Pairing nokia 6310i with 2004 X5

Many thanks for the reply. I've tried what you recommended but still no luck. The same phone worked fine in my 2004 525 and still works fine in my 2007 325, it just doesn't seem to want to pair with the X5. Have checked bluetooth module is there, and the antenna, and all the wiring under the centre console - all seems ok.

Car is going in for service tomorrow so will be asking the dealer to fix. Car is less than three years old so hoping the warranty will cover it.
