Bluetooth Volume
I'm new to the forum and new to X5 ownership. I've had several BMW's now, including a M3, Z4 and Mini Cooper. I've had the X5 3.0d Sport for about a month now, what a car!! I have two little problems outstanding, not really problems but things I'd like to improve. I have the 2005 3.0d Sport, MvIV Sat Nav, computer, bluetooth, TV. I have the latest software v29.1 and the latest maps 27-02. The Bluetooth is factory fitted. The audio level for the bluetooth connection is crap. I've ensured that the phone volume is highest, along with the volume via the radio control and steering wheel control is set to highest. I've been into the radio settings and set TP to max (having had this advice from x5world) I appreciate that the volume is affected by the phone itself (Orange SPV C600 - I know load of crap but other than SMS it works a treat whereas my Nokia E61 doesn't transfer the phonebook) and some will be better than others. Is they anything else I can do that will improve the situation. Will a 13th generation ULF improve the audio volume? There is also amplifiers you can get, are these any good? Will the latest MIC improve the situation, given that people can hear me fine at the other end. I'm also interested in configuring the Voice Recognition, I believe my X5 is already equipped for this. What do I need to do? Any help greatly appreciated. |

If you have VR beyond the basics there's nothing to configure as far as i know. Just push the button with the face on it. Wait for the Beep and say the word "Map" If you have a VR module installed it will respond

Welcome to tyhe forum.
You can set the volume by using the VR part of the ULF (BT module), Just push the button with the face on it. Wait for the Beep and say the word "volume up" till the right level. If you don't have VR enabled, the get hold of KiwiJochen's navcoder and enable it.

UK spec'd cars do not, VR is disabled as the default, so you normally need to go to the dealer to enable it. With Jochens navcoder you can enable the VR part yourself, (even if the ULF is not "MIT SES"), this means that pretty much any BT ULF can have VR enabled, this is something the dealers say is not possible.

Sorry for any confusion.
After a little research I've found that I need the voice recognition module. The wiring etc. is all there, just minus the module. Once I get that part it should be an easy retro-fit. |

Actually most of the work is mounting the module. That's what took the longest for me. Oh wait a minute........looking for that blue connector took a while as well. I missed it because it had a jumper plugged in it and that made it look like is was being used. So i kept looking for a blue plug that was'n't connected. As soon as i recognized the jumper took it out then i was off and running.

Luckily for me the blue adapter was easy to find. It's just not plugged into anything. I've also taken a look at my X5 (2005) this morning and there seems to plenty of space for mounting the VR module.
What confused, and still confuses me, is the ULFs overall capabilities with regards VR. I have the 6th generation 84 21 6 9 55522 ULF. There is a 6th generation ULF for sale and is advertised as having VR capability. Looking at BimmerNav their Bluetooth retro-kit comes with VR. Is the VR function serviced by the 13th gen ULF or do you simply get an additional VR module as part of the retro-fit kit? Is the 6th gen ULF also a VR device. I guess it's best that I ask BimmerNav directly. Many thanks for all of your help. |
