Australian Telstra NextG Phones for Bluetooth Help Please
I am seeking help from Australian members on any phones which can be used on Telstra's NextG network (HSDPA 850Mhz) and are also fully (or mostly) compatible with BMW's interpretation of the Bluetooth spec. Both my LG TU500 and LG TU550 pair o.k but do nothing else. My dealer could only provide me with a list of outdated GSM hardware heavily weighted towards Sony Ericsson products. If you have a NextG phone which works with BMW bluetooth, would you be able to post a reply with the details of what it is and what works please.  Hands Free Phoning? Contacts? Contacts SIM? SMS? Snap in Adapter? I don't want to buy yet another phone just to find it won't work with BMW's Bluetooth.  I think Ive learnt my lesson about buying options based on vehicle marketing claims. Next time I'll save my money and buy off the shelf solutions.  Any help or constructive advice would be welcome. thanks

I have used the Telstra Nokia 6233 and are currently using the Telstra HTC Touch Dual 850.
Both phones work well with my BMW Bluetooth ULF which I installed in 2007. I can control the phones from the dash or the steering wheel buttons, contacts come up on the Nav display, however I can't get sms messages to display on the nav screen which is not really a problem. Snap in adapters are available for the 6233. I asked the guy at JB HiFi if I could try the phone in the car before I bought the HTC and he come out and tested it with me and it worked fine. I have tried a Samsung phone which didn't work.

I have found some information indicating that Sony Ericsson K850i is pretty much fully compatible, so have ordered one. Should have it tomorrow, so for your information and others, I will test and post my findings back on this thread. thanks again

iPhone 3Gs with '02 E53
Hands free works, contacts, no sms's though, but it not a deal breaker. I also have a iphone snap in adapter, which worked for my Gen1 iphone, but havent tried it with this one

Hi,
It looks like you're local to me. BMW ULFs are universal all over the world, the reason US cars are different is that they have a TCU instead. For a full list of tested phones see BMW Bluetooth interface : Tested mobile phones A whole host of other phones will work to some degree but just haven't been tested by BMW. If you get stuck let me know I might be able to help as I fitted bluetooth in to my car.

Hi
The Sony Ericsson K850i has worked out beautifully for me. Handsfree  Contacts SMS I haven't tried Call Hold/Conference, or call waiting, but these functions are also supposed to be fully supported. I haven't been able to locate a Snap In Adapter yet, but to be honest, I haven't been looking too hard. I think I can live without it. The K850i does not have an external antenna connection so the cradle is only useful for the purposes of charging. I'll just install some USB power ports and use that for charging.
