XM in 05 X3 with Nav and DSP

I spoke with the tech from Blitzsafe. He was surprised to learn that I have the 3 and 6 pin connectors in the center console. He thought his adapter should work with XMDirect.

So I plugged it in and... nothing. The stereo believes there is something there. I say this because when I press the mode button it toggles between radio, CD and one other selection (which just shows the last track the in-dash CD was on). However there is no sound and no change of display on the other selection.

He guessed it might have something to do with the settings in the stereo. Perhaps it is not set to USA? Anybody know how to access that menu on the 05 with nav? I read the article on accessing the hidden menus... does that work on my car too?

Any other ideas why the adapter does not work on my car?

Thanks!

OK... so here is my solution. It is kind of a kludge, but it gets the job done.

I installed an aux input yesterday. I will run a 3.5mm cable from the headphone jack on my myfi to the aux input. In the glove box I will install the power adapter that plugs into the flashlight charging port and run the xm antenna into the glove box. By installing the aux port in the glove box too, I can keep the entire myfi in there and use the remote control that came with it to control it.

Like I said, not the most elegant solution but it should work ok. My cost was $39.95 for the aux, $4.99 for the dual 3.5mm cable and $8.99 for the power adapter.

Now... how do I get rid of the hum that I am hearing via the aux input?

First off, since you have DSP, and you do not mention the CD-changer coaxial cable, I have to attribute that as the issue. You might be able to buy a A/D converter from tom g...

Also, the noise is from a ground loop in between the audio ground on the mini connector and the ground in the cig adapter. You can try improving the cig adapter ground, or install a ground loop isolator, but that will be a PITA since all the GLI's I know have RCA plugs...

I did not find a coax in the center console...would it be there or in the electronics bay in the trunk?

Thank you for the idea!!! Unfortunately that product will not give me control over the XM receiver from the factory head unit. That still requires me to go the XM Commander route which I wanted to avoid.

Again, thank you!
