for $250, i'd say pay 'm. as long as
u have recourse if something goes wrong later down the road. plus, if something breaks during the install, they're responsible. the install wasn't hard, but parts such as the door handle, if lighted, can be costly to replace.

I'd say that's fair.
Of course, it's what we charge.

I can understand that, but $250 for something that sounds like removing a few screws, adjusting a few tabs off, and removing a couple of connectors for windows, locks, etc... That's a good chunk of change when the speakers are mostly plug and play. They also quoted me $300 for a Pioneer AVIC-D2 installation, which is more-so understandable, since the unit is NAV based...

the speakers are not all plug and play.
by no means is the install difficult, but as i said, if u happen to pull the door panel off to hard b4 removing wires, u will break the door handle. if it's a lit handle, ur looking at about $60 for each handle u break. if the shop breaks it, they have to pay for a new one, not u.

Look at it as a risk management exercise. Having a 70K vehicle IN the bay, much less disassembling it, assumes a responsibility for anything getting scratched, bent, etc. If the reward isn't enough, there's zero reason for a businessperson to assume the risk. I've been in this business for 20 years. Cars are harder to take apart than ever before, and plastics are more brittle and less flexible than ever before. As a very good installer I know says, if you didn't need to buy parts, there wouldn't be a parts department. What's that old saw about the chalk mark costing 0.50 and knowing where t put it costing $49K?

It's not difficult, but if the aftermarket speaker's don't fit in the stock plastic basket, then you'll need to cut some MDF with an area that's pretty thin. We broke a couple pieces, so it can take some time to get right. Also, if you have the rear sunshade, make sure you know how to remove them; you can't remove the door panel without getting how off.

the rear door speakers can be removed and
replaced w/o removing the entire door panel. that rear sunshade is a PITA to remove. what keeps the OEM speakers locked in place is a tab built onto the speaker. the speaker housing has a notch in it that this tab snaps into. the replacement speakers do not have this tab; hence then reason the directions call for some heavy duty glue.
