Question Can an aftermarket radio connect to DSP?

I have a 2004 X5 4.4i non-Nav with DSP. In the long run I want to replace the MID, DSP amp, and speakers. At this point in time I just want to replace the MID. I have the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 and would like to have it play through the DSP amp.

Based on what I have read here it is not as simple as just connecting the line out to the DSP amp (or is it?). Will an adaptor like PAC OEM 2 get it done?

It probably won't work. The DSP amp expects a full volume, 2-channel, line-level input, and most aftermarket radios would not be able to provide this. The reason is that the volume , balance, fader, bass, and trebble adjustments all occur within the DSP amp, not the radi. Therefore, your radio volume knob would be semi-inoperable, and you would not be able to use the fader at all.

Thanks for the fast reply Brian-bmw. I guess I need to consider upgrading all of it at once or leave it factory.

I would recommend doing some reading at this thread:

http://www.xoutpost.com/stereo-system...dsp-audio.html

This explains things pretty well.
