Same problem
I had the same symptoms but I now have control through the steering wheel. All I did was use the control on the IPOD when the problem first occured but I still have the ~1 second drop out when you change the song playing.

DICE Issues..
(02 X5, analog DSP, cd changer, navi)
I received my DICE unit yesterday, and installed it per the manufacturer's instructions. First off, it woudnt work at all, my iPod (video) didn't even recognize it. However, I plugged in my Nano, and it worked. Both iPods are up to date with the most current versions. CD 6 Tr 02 (text display did not work, only reads "*dice*". Steering wheel controls work on CD 1 - 5 to switch songs, etc, but still not text display with CD 6, Tr 02. I tried pulling fuses and resetting the iPod. Now there is nothing. My head unit doesnt even pick up CD mode. all the happens when I switch from Radio is it reads "no tape". Did I fry the unit or something? Also, do youthinkthe problem with recognition of my video iPod is with the iPod itself, since it worked with my nano? And how do I get text display to work? Thank you. Tom

1. Disconnect iPod from cable 2. Remove battery cables, negative first 3. Touch battery cable terminals together (away from battery) for +5 seconds, a small spark is normal as this is stored power draining from the system. 4. Allow cables to remain disconnected for about 5-7 minutes 5. Reconnect battery cables onto battery, negative last. 6. Reboot iPod by pressing on MENU and CENTER buttons for +5 seconds and then reconnecting to the DICE cable after the reboot process is completed. Let me know if these steps correct the problem.

Doing the Dance, Repeatedly
"I tried pulling fuses and resetting the iPod. Now there is nothing. My head unit doesnt even pick up CD mode. all the happens when I switch from Radio is it reads "no tape". "
I feel your pain. I've pulled the fuses probably 4 times now, done the battery cable zap 3 times. As you know (or will find out) this is a PITA on the X5. Display on the dash or nav screen usually fails after a few days, or shows odd things. Controls on steering wheel and radio usually don't work. Our iPod went dead once- I thought the DICE would charge it but I guess it doesn't. Whether its BMW's or DICE's "fault," I don't know, but to me this is a product that wasn't quite ready for prime time. |
