Some believe that the Sirius signal to not be as strong as the XM signal. I cannot confirm or deny this claim. However just like your regular radio the signal can go from great to poor and back to great in a short span. The signal strength and clarity of the signal can lead to the results you are currently experiencing.

For most listeners, the DSP amp in the vehicle is not all that bad. The real short coming of the OEM audio system is the speakers. They are not all that great and while the DSP amplifier is doing its best to provide quality sound, when it is powering speakers that are incapable of producing quality sound, the end result is where you are now, unsatisfactory audio performance. The amplifier of course could be improved, however most users who are not critical listeners will be more than happy with just a speaker upgrade.

Here is a link to our stage 1 audio system upgrade and there are some reviews available to read about the system. I think it is exactly what will solve your problems that you are having. This upgrade will not increase the volume level but will provide you with cleaner,crisper and more detailed audio experience. You will also be able to listen to your music at a higher audio level because the speakers are more efficient than the OEM speakers and will not begain to distort at as low a volume level as the OEM speakers. Also keep in mind if the radio signal is poor, no audio upgrade is going to improve the sound quality. We need to have a clean and clear music source to really test and appreciate what the audio system is capable of.

Maybe but my guess would be no, who knows some company out there may be working on something. We will keep the X5 world in the know if it is released.

There is, but it replaces your factory CD Changer and does not offer text display. The BMW Sirius kits are much better suited for Navigation-equipped X5s.

Yeah, technically Sirius is better, but the programming
is overshadowd by XM.

IMHO "better" depends on the user.

I added an XM-fm-mod unit and put some Focal speakers up front. The xm unit sounds really good but it sounds like its missing about 10-15 percent of the volume compared to a cd being played at full blast.
