DICE...issues and resolutions.

Let me start this thread by saying that Tom @ EAS has been extremely helpful during my entire DICE drama and continues to offer the best customer service in the business. This is in no way a negative thread about EAS or Tom.

I wanted to get the impressions of other X5 drivers out there with the DICE module. I have read several threads with people experiencing some of the issues I have and would like to try and better document how people have fixed them, or perhaps which issues are unresolved.

I guess I will start with my story.

I received my first DICE a few weeks back and although the install was quite simple, the first module was balanced heavily to the right side of the car no matter what I did. I sent it back in and received a new one.

The second module corrected the balance problem, but introduced several new ones....

The first is that if I make or receive a bluetooth call, the text display will not return and frequently after I end the call the sound will almost completely disappear and be replaced by the clicking sound that many have complained about. If I try to adjust the volume, it clicks every time.

Second, every time a change the track, the volume drops out for a half second them returns. This happens every time.

Lastly, it seems like the sub is not utilized when playing music using the DICE. When I turn it to SIRIUS, the sub acts normally, but back to DICE, it is hardly there.

Tom sent me a third unit and even tested my unit on his cars and did not have any issues. I am stuck with the problems above and am planning to take the unit and the car to him next month to have him see things first hand.

Can anyone comment on resolutions to these issues or perhaps add any issues you have to the list. I am thinking about returning the DICE in favor of the VSM and iLINK, but really do not want to spend the money.

I can't help but think that there is some combination of DICE firmware, Radio model, sirius model, and DSP that is causing issues on some cars, and none on others. So if you respond, please provide as much info as possible.

Thanks,

Tom

I appreciate the feedback.

The best way to diagnose what the issue is is what was offered before - datalogging your own vehicle to find out specifically what the cause of the problem is. The module returned to us was in perfect working order and passed testing in both our bench and vehicles (both Business CD and Navigation w/ Bluetooth setups) Until then, we can only make educated guesses on what information is provided to us.

You are not too far from us and DICE to have the X5 checked out, as soon as you know you will be in the area - make an appointment to head on by and we'll take a look and get an absolute answer on the spot.

Tom
This happens also to me, every time, every track. (X5PL 3.0d, Nav w/o DSP, Video iPod 60 MB, Firmware 1.2)

Another problem, I mentioned already in the main DICE topic is the text display. Every time there is a non-Roman character in the title, artist name or album, DICE displays on my navscreen the text belonging to the previously played track. Has this happened to anyone?

I have a similar problem with bluetooth calls -- after the call ends, the DICE resumes playing music fine, but the text display disappears. All I get is "TR1", "TR2", "TR3", etc.

At that point, nothing will bring back the text except shutting off the engine for a while. I've tried CD6/Track4 but it doesn't restore the text.

If you are making an outgoing call, you can avoid this problem by changing the source on the Business CD to AM or FM before activating the handsfree bluetooth system. Then make your call. When your call is over, you can switch back to the DICE.

I have not experienced any of the other problems you listed. Balance is fine, and sound level does not drop when changing songs.

As info, here is my setup: 2005 X5 with Business CD. NO DSP. NO NAV. iPod is the new 80 gig video model.

Brad,

Contact me directly when you have a chance, I'll need some info on the DICE module.

I had the Bluetooth issue as well. Three units later, I ended up driving down to DICE to have the issue logged. it was resolved in just a few mnutes by a software patch. This was a couple of months ago...

Mine does not experience the BT issue any longer... but I have several of the other issues. IMHO, I love everything about my X5 with the exception if the iPod integration. I would gladly give up the DICE for a CDC that payed MP3's. I suppose I am too simple.. I just want things to work reliably.

Possible fix for the disappearing text

For those of you who lose the song text after making/receiving a bluetooth call, try setting the text display to the instrument cluster (aka the "OBD") instead of the radio head unit (aka the "MID").

To switch the text display to the OBD, select CD6/Track 3.

This SEEMS to have cured the problem for me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Brad,

Do you have access to the module? There may be a firmware update for you.

I have noticed a high-pitched whine from mine between songs when using either the iPod or the XM Roady connected thru the DICE. Usually cannot hear it when a song is playing (bc I have it turned up so loud), but it is def. noticeable when a song ends.

ANyone else have this issue??
