1st-hand experience: BSW Sub + NAV + DSP?

Got a question for likely 4.6/4.8 owners and others that have bought and installed BSW's custom X5 sub and enclosure:

How did you mount your amp?!

I've spoken with Jason at BSW about placing it where the CD-changer used to reside, but it's a tight fit at best. It pushes the carpeted cover panel outward with the amp alone (feet removed, of course) in position--and that's without the power/speaker/input wires in place.

That's not satisfactory to me, nor is an external mount that kills the whole stealth idea--the very reason I went this route in the first place.

So, my question to you, dear NAV + DSP havin,' X5 sub-installin' fiends is this... Where to you mount the damn amp?

A second, related question would be: do you know if the NAV will function if I change it from being horizontally mounted to vertical? It seems I could make better use of the space in that well if I removed the entire factory mounting bracket, and installed both amp and NAV/DVD controller vertically. Anyone? Bueller?

Thanks for the input. As always, photos much appreciated.

-Dave

Depending on the height of the amp, you can get acorn nuts and machine screws, and disconnects for the power wire, and you can mount it under the load floor bolted to the removable tray.

It should fit. I'm not sure what's going on with your installation; we have done this installation a number of times without issue. Please give us a call so we can figure out what's happening. Photos would help, too!

Micah,

Can you snap some pics of the amp mounted and post them up here so others can see?

Let me upload and host a couple of the shots for mounting the amplifier.

Just finished the BSW sub / amp installation

Well here's how you go - remove the plastic unit on the floor next to the CD changer area. Remove two legs of the amp by unscrewing them, so the unit becomes 2 inches less wide. Now the alpine amp will JUST fit into the crevice, verticallly. It is a snug fit that also ensures there is no vibration; i just put in some carpet to make it more snug while not blocking the ventilating fins. Remember, as you try to put it in, you WILL scratch the amp. Small price to pay...

In this install everything is completely concealed, but you will also have to take out the plastic floor cover permanently. The tire cover goes on top, and I have a pull out cargo floor, and nothing shows.

Its a great install. If you need more details let me know.

Thanks for posting this, Ash! If there's any way you could post a pic or two, I'd very much appreciate it.

Again, thanks for a viable option!
