Matt - no, I didn't disconnect the battery. However, I've disconnected it several times over the years (including last fall when I replaced the battery) and haven't had any problems with the vehicle having to relearn settings. This long story was the one issue I did have, but it was more related to jump starting the vehicle versus disconnecting the battery - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...icle&artid=133

Cool

I know you guys are big fans of the ice>Link Plus, but this system has been nothing but a nightmare for me. Maybe these issues are specific to the unit I have FW BB2 (upgraded from 2B1) or my X5 (2005 w/ Nav and DSP) but I have been unimpressed. I’m not sure if it’s worth it over the BMW/Apple iPOD connection. At least that option doesn’t promise text display and under deliver. I’ve experienced everything from the radio drop off issue, to reduced volume when a song starts to no access to the set up menu which means no way to turn on the text display.

Tom at Dension appears to be concerned when he responds to my emails. He responds to every other email I send for assistance and Dension tech support seems to uninterested – offering only canned responses to my requests for assistance.

It’d been nothing, but an ordeal since I ordered the ice>Link. I was charged for the RadioShack DSP converter when I ordered the ice>Link even though it was not required for my 2005 X5. Tom helped me return the part for a refund, but I was never offered a return shipping refund.

Tom is now shipping me a replacement unit of the ice>Link to hopefully rectify the problems I’m having. Hopefully this unit will work and Dension will reimburse me for my shipping on the Radio Shack DSP unit and on the old ice>Link.

I’m really surprised at how much slack you guys are cutting Dension as you guys seem to be perfectionist like myself and expect only the best of or for your BMW’s. I feel Dension is using us as guinea pigs.

Mine still has the drop out issue as well. It seems better (happens less often), but still occuring.

Also, I cannot get the text to OBC working with the new firmware. worked before, but will not work now. How did you get it into text mode... use the option in the firmware, or play the "text to obc" config mp3 from the music list? neither seem to work for me, but just not sure which one I should be trying.

I've heard that Dension has released another firmware update called vBB2. I sent an email to Tom over the weekend requesting a download link. Like others above, the prior firmware update reduced the frequency of drop outs for me but it didn't eliminate them. I'm hoping the version BB2 firmware is an improvement.

I'm running FW BB2 and the issues still persist. Tom emailed me instructions on how to enable text mode and made it clear not to download or run the OBD text patch with this FW. I was instructed that this FW allowed radios with Nav to access and enable text display via the setup menu on the Nav screen and that the Info button on the radio/Nav would toggle it on and off. Unfortunately, no such option exists in the set up menu. However, text periodically appears in the OBD but disappears when a new cd is selected or some other text appears on the display.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I’m really frustrated with Dension.

Well, let's see what can be done - what year is your X5?

We're noticing issues with 2004+ X5s running the BB2 Firmware, I am going to have to ask not to update the firmware to those with those model years.

Until the issues are ironed out - it will be consided beta.

After reading all the good things on here about the ice link I tried to buy one today but all sold out,not sure it is such a good idea as my X5 is a 05 with Nav and DSP is it just one person that seems to be having real trouble on here are you all struggling ?

Which is the best version to get with or without the cradle ?

Many thanks

At this time, we are rewriting the code to display text on the NAV screens, it seems to only affect the 2004+ models - no need to worry, there will be a solution soon for text. In the meantime, the text can always be placed on the OBC screen below the gauges.

I say get the dock cable version - there is no reason to display the ipod in plain view any longer.
