iPod low volume input.

Hi ya. I'm getting a low db level from my iPod via the BMW/iPod connection. The difference when switching from CD to iPod is very obvious and you can't adjust the volume on the iPod after connection to the head unit. Is this normal performance from an iPod?. The iPod works well enough when the head unit volume is cranked up but occasionally pauses for no reason. Have set sound quality to best level on iPod when down loading but still has me stuffed.

I thought the 6 buttons that usually chooses your radio stations or which CD is playing determines the volumn. 6 being the loudest. Of course I have Navigation and thats how mine works.

That would be correct if he is using the AUX input to connect the iPod to the vehicle. If he's using BMW's iPodYourBMW kit then those buttons are used to select the playlist that you want to listen to.

So Aussi-X5 which one do you have? The Aux input, or the iPod your BMW?

Thanks for your intrest guys. The fitting was performed by a car sound shop but I was told the iPod connects into the cd changer input (is that the aux input?). When connected the No. 6 is displayed and when pressed the iPod starts playing. The iPod interface module was purchased from my local BMW dealer.

There are 2 different iPod configurations that BMW offers. One is called iPod your BMW which is not compatable with any car with optional built-in Navigation system. The other is what is called Aux input. The Aux input does not connect to the CD changer. The following link show how the Aux input is installed.http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-218.html The installation you have I have not heard of unless it's an Icelink install. You also said that your installer said the iPod connects into the cd changer input. If thats the case then how can you switch between the CD and the iPod if the iPod is connected where the CD Changer goes. Something is not right. Please provide a complete description of your vehicle. Year, weather you have Navigation system, a cd changer ect ect.

It sounds to me like he has the BMW iPodYourBMW kit, which does use the CD changer connections. I am not aware of a way to change the gain on that particular unit (another advantage that the Dension unit has)

I had the same problem with mine, the difference between cd and the ipod was night and day....I don't have the navi, just the single cd player unit in the front, I switched to the Icelink and the quality is very comparable to cd now

My X5 is a 2005 model 3.0d with no satnav just a single CD with the stacker input option. The iPod connects into the stacker input via a BMW/iPod connection and everything works fine as per instuctions from BMW handbook except for the low gain level I seem to have. I shall investergate the Icelink alternative but since I've already paid for BMW connection I'm push'n it as far as I can. There are a lot of BMW dealers in Melbourne and a lot of iPods, so if this is a common problem someone will have a fix for it. Thanks for all your feed back.
