Wow, thats disgusting.....

I would just pull out the factory radio, install the AVIC with the proper kit, and pick up a Steering wheel interface control so you can still use your factory controls on your wheel with your AVIC.

So far I've just rewired it so that the audio output from the avic runs through the aux input of the factory radio. Then ran another 3.5mm jack to plug the ipod/phone into with a y splitter. Not much better than the initial install, but at least the steering wheel controls work now.

I haven't even messed with the crap screen installs or avic faceplate yet. I don't ever drive the thing, so the less I think about it the less I care. My 200k mile Range Rover takes up all my tinkering time.
