This statement I completly disagree with. The ice>Link Plus interface is no more complex than any of your radio commands or Navigation controls. This is what was intended from the beginning.

C'mon guys, it can't be that hard. The chaps over at Invention, in the UK, have done it.
In all fairness, you shouldn't be driving while browsing through the iPod - there is even a disclaimer message at bootup stating this. Keep in mind the ID3 text can also be displayed from your OBC, below your gauges so that your eyes are not far from the road - where they should be while driving. You also have your choice of displaying the ID3 on MID or NAV.

The suggestions here are all great - but safe driving is the #1 priority here, not the iPod.

Let's not digress to the least common element here. There's definately some enhancements that can be made to make this even better. That said, I applaud Dension for coming out with a product that pushes the boundries of anything else currently on the market.

Tom, you're making the same mistake that many of us have made when being told what the market wants. You're telling us why you can't do what we want - which affects the value of the data not a whit.

And I wish that the Icelink's Playlist UI was better for the driver, and more precisely mimicked the iPod interface.

It is still far better than the OEm requirement of one predetermined playlist only... but we all know that telling a user to not change discs on a Cd changer while driving is illogical and self-defeating - and the icelink is jus a Cd changer from a function POV.

Tom,
Apologies. I didn't mean to offend. I was just trying to give you the reasoning behind my feature request.

Today, Icelink has the best integration of what is out there. I know, I use it everyday.
However, I would like Dension to know how to take it to the next level before their competitors do (and there are some potential new market entrants that are working on some very cool features that utilize more of the real-estate on the NAV screen, like http://www.intravention.co.uk).

So, perhaps someone else will come up with a better reason than mine - that's OK. It's even OK that you disagree. The thread was a request for comment, which Dension is free to accept or decline.
I'm just trying to help Dension stay out ahead of the pack by continuing to refine the existing user interface (as El Duderino says).

Making the iPod look more like an iPod and less like a CD changer is what the market wants. Someone is going to do it - it might as well be Dension.

No offense taken, I just didn't agree the ice>Link being a "dangerous" device as indicated in your post - I do appreciate the feedback though.

In all fairness, here are a list of options I would like to see on the ice>Link:

- Browse By Genre
- [<< >>] pressed for +5 seconds skips by letters when browsing by Artist/Album
- NAV dial being pressed acts as "select" key
- Time Elasped
- Mute
- Font Size fixed on NAV screen

I've already turned the list over to Dension's engineers, lets see what happens. :p

I'd just like them to provide proper support to customers with problems. Their European Support (based in Hungary) simply does not exist, never answers emails and doesn't respond to request for assistance from customers or their approved distributors/dealers, and the USA support teams can't help (even if they may be willing) coz we're the wrong side of the Atlantic.

By another product from someone else.

I can still provide technical support if needed.

Conversely, I don't know anyone who has a 10+ gb iPod who enjoys (vs. suffers through) the "artist" menu selection. So, why not make "Playlist" the first menu selection on the next update? Next, since scrolling through artist is so difficult why not replace it with "Genre" which would eliminate the need to create playlist for them.

I would recommend that you poll users here as to the way they use the IceLink. If my viewpoint is in the minority, then continue as is... but I doubt it. Also, is the font and display shown on the iPod when connected to the IceLink necessary because it has to be the same as the ID3 text? If not, it would be great if you could allow the display (especially for the video ipods) go unchanged when connected... it adds to the wow factor for passengers and allows album covers to be displayed on the screen.
