V27.1 on MK3 and blank screen! Can I Recover???
I tried to upgrade a MK3 Nav Unit and I got a blank screen. After I reset the ignition, my Navigation dissapeared from the screen, so I can't choose NAV anymore in my menu. Help, can I do something to recover my Nav Unit? Big thanks for any solutions already. |

The Nav unit should still continue trying to boot off CD, even if the installed software is now trashed.
So burn a new CD-R, using high quality media, and at the slowest possible speed as the current one obviously couldn't be read. I also recommend you use a different software version such as v27.0 or v28.0 as the update will not get applied if it appears that v27.1 is already installed. If the CD won't eject, then leave for a few hours and try again, otherwise remove the power to the DVD/CD unit (blue cable) and press Eject repeatedly as you re-apply power. Start all over again with the new CD. Don't turn the power off when it starts updating. Good luck Last edited by BabyMakingWeather; 10-23-2006 at 10:29 AM. |

BMW has some of the finest automotive engineers on the planet. Unfortunately, all finite instructions are only available in German - they have a lesson to learn there - but Germans don't understand that most of their customers understand English......... |

Errr, perhaps you should consider reading the BMW service bulletin before getting the flame thrower out...? These complaints are usually the result of a faulty Navigation Operating software CD. For points 1-3 for error messages that appear on the display screen, check for the correct software version and try loading a new Navigation CD. For a CD that will not eject from the Navigation computer follow the procedure below: Remove the 1. Navigation computer. 2. Unplug the voltage supply (blue connector). 3. Reconnect the voltage supply and immediately press the eject button repeatedly until the CD in the drive is ejected. 4. Insert a new Navigation CD and restart the installation process. |

Where do you get your misleading instructions (cribbed from the net?). I've been working with BMW SatNav computers for years & what you advise people is absolute tosh!!! |

If it were me, I would give satnav_tecknik's approach a quick try. No harm there. But, if that does not quickly produce results, then I would go with BMW's official method that BabyMakingWeather quoted from BMW's Phone and Navigation Systems Technical Service Information Bulletin. (Incidentially, BMW has been publishing this same process for recovering from a failed OS installation since at least early 2005. There may be other methods, but I trust this one too.)
